View Full Version : Haynes Day - November - Now taking payments
I'm now taking payments for this tack day on 18/11/06. Cost is £55, which is for the whole day
I'll list those that have shown an interest but your place will not be confirmed until I have recieved payment:
Jeff / Pete (Crapi) - PAID
R.Sendout (200sx)
Nicely
Slipstream Ian
andykaz
dux2002
RotaxMax (MX5) PAID
Jonboy (MX5) PAID
Scouger
Mikesx13 (205) PAID
Mr T
James Ward - (200sx) PAID
FMG's Dad - (S2000) PAID
Wallers - PAID
Jon's mate Rob (Brabus Roadster) PAID
Midnight Drifter (PAID)
Full Throttle PAID
Spaces are limited to 10 :whip:
You need to send a cheque for £55, made payable to Jeff Skuse to:
25 Atherston
North Common
Bristol
BS30 8YB
I won't bank any cheques until I've received enough to make the day a definate goer (we need at least 7 really).
I'd prefer cheques as I can just destroy them if there's not enough interest, however I do have a paypal account and if someone explains how :wack: you can pay into this I suppose, as long as you don'd mind a potential delay in getting a refund if it doesn't go ahead.

It's pretty small but as there's only 1 car at a time that doesn't usually matter too much, unless you have a silly big turbo like Jez :p :D
Sure you'll find plenty of pics if you do a quick search :)
Any of those dates is OK. 4th is my birthday...

Think of a decent sized go-kart track and you won't be far off - if you get into 3rd then you're doing well :D
It's a great laugh though
I'm up for it, but i cant make the 25th.

I couldn't make the 4th, the 25th is too close to the donny trackday, 18th might be a go-er for us though :)

MX5's are great fun round Haynes - you can really, really fling it into the corners :D

shouldnt be a problem jeff, i will be in my aw11 if thats ok?
There's going to be more non-200's than 200's at this rate :D
18th sounds like the best day, so unless anyone posts otherwise I'll contact Haynes tomorrow and book the 18th

The Capri of doom has evolved since last time  No more overheating  Well, maybe if FMG drives it again, but not under normal circumstances :D
FMG has his own car to wrec... errr, drive now, although I doubt it will fare as well off road as the pimpenwagen... ;)
Can you do the 18th, as andykaz can't make the 25th.
Cheers for the love  18th is ok for me deffo
Edit - what's the sound levels there now? Do they check them nowadays? Think i may need to invest in a decat silencer...

You mean the Westfield that he's already broken? :(
Andy - Last time noise limits were 'strictly' enforced by some bloke who seemed like he couldn't give a sh1t :D However the official line is that if you're over the limit (I'll check what it is) you may be banned from the track until you get it sorted and pass the test. :whip:
EDIT: Noise limit was 98 Db's last time and I doubt very much whether that's been increased
Thanks for the info mate, time to borrow R Sendouts loud o meter :)
Might be interested in this :) would prob like to take car round track as well.

Does anyone know the criteria for the test?????
Revs/distance from exhaust please:)
The bloke stood about 5 foot behind the car, asked you to rev it to 4000ish, said "nah, not even registering", then went on to the next car...
The batteries could have been flat in the meter for all he cared ;)

If I'm around then I'll probably turn up and spectate/help again.
While I've got the Westfield's engine apart I'm going to pretty much rebuild it all. Plus it's an excuse to sort the whining thrust bearing.
Somehow doubt I'll be ready in time for this with the westy (Plus I don't fit inside with the roof up in the rain ;) ), and the Merc's taking plunges in health all if a sudden ( :( )
I'll be happy to do insanity demo's in other peoples cars though :wack:

Not really on all the corners I guess, Although it's quite a grippy track and you won't really be going silly fast straight away.
I'd call it a sprint circuit really, so you shouldn't worry about run off unless you're drifting :)

Quite abrasive really, especially towards the edges of the track.
That said unless you're drifting you should only need the one set and rotate at lunch
Obviously you'll need spares to get home legally though :wack:

Do you really think you'll need a new set of tyres on this track? I did half a day last time before my turbo gaskets went and it barely touched the tread.....
I plan to kill a few sets on the rear :wack: but I asked the question to judge whether I go for front end grip and run my 18's @ £130 per tyre, or put crap on the front as well....
I think I'll initially run on cheap rubber at both ends then swap to the 18's on the front if I get fed up with fighting understeer.
After watching the video, is a lap less than 30secs (lol) and do u get a chance to even get into 3rd gear?! :D

Depends how hard you push it really - I used to kill 2 tyres to a trackday when not drifting and managed to up that to 2 dead tyres and 2 slicks when I started arsing around :wack:

After watching the video, is a lap less than 30secs (lol) and do u get a chance to even get into 3rd gear?! :D
I think my best last time was 29 seconds and you can very briefly shift into third down the straight towards the gate if you get a good slingshot out of the corner before rather than 'drifting' it - bear in mind though that there are quite a few different possible layouts to the track - the one on the vids is just the most popular.

Depends how hard you push it really - I used to kill 2 tyres to a trackday when not drifting and managed to up that to 2 dead tyres and 2 slicks when I started arsing around :wack:
Is that the Haynes track though or tracks with high speeds/fast cornering long periods of sustained hard braking etc?

Haynes :)
I don't seem to be very hard on tyres elsewhere for some reason
In fact at the Lydd day (last trackday in the 200  ) my tyres were actually gaining rubber curtesy of the drifters as Nicely can confirm :wack:

pmsl, nice :D
I pretty much wrecked my tyres at the last haynes day - but as you can hear, they were squealing a bit... ;)
It was mainly edge wear, which may not have been so bad I'd have pumped them up a bit harder. Nicely's tyres were also a bit wrecked too...

Bugger I was sincerely hoping to not wreck my tyres :wack:
Don't think the wear will be as much in a Peugeot 205 though? Lighter, less power, fwd without enough power to really spin the wheels up?
Bear in mind I was in a 950kg, 130BHP MX5.... ;)
The tyres are possibly still road legal, but I'll be swapping them on when I get there...
They were old tyres though, and crap to start with - I have a feeling some of it was that the rubber had hardened rather than wearing nicely...
With the open diff the Crapi survived 2 Haynes days without using hardly any rubber :indiff: Last time, with the welded diff, we turned 3 tyres into slicks :D

And created a 4th slick (of coolant) in the car park, from what I remember.... ;)
I am not gonna use any good tyres...has anyone got any standard s13 wheels they want to sell me on the day? I have 4 part worn 17's to kill, but think I might need more!

I have four (I think) pre-facelift wheels with tyres to kill on, can possibly bring them and let you at them for £30?
If tyres have a good amount of tread consider them sold! and thanks!

It'll spin the inside wheels up coming out of corners... even the 1.6s do that! And cornering will definitely put wear on the outside edge of the fronts

Are you driving well if you're constantly spinning the wheels up out of corners (an open question not a rhetorical one by the way :) )

I wasn't driving well.. But I was having fun ;)
it was spinning one of the wheels up through the faster corners, just due to weight transfer I guess (and probably crap tyres too)

I totally agree with having fun!! i'm quite concerned actually that i'll have a 'lesser' experience in the 205 than I did in the 200 due to the rwd/fwd differences and the fact that spinning the wheels round corners in a fwd car does not constitute fun!
From what I understand, the 205's are great fun round a track anyway, so it should still be a laugh :D
I'm somewhat ashamed to say I'm hoping the tracks wet, should make for some slidey fun - even with not a lot of power :D
I don't mind if the track is wet but I'd really rather not have to drive the Crapi to or from there in the rain. Appalling wipers, knackered remoulds and a welded diff don't mix well with water (on the road) :wack:
I'm sorry that i cant join you guys and missed out on the last one:cry: , however i do have a supply of wheels/tyres i had ready for the previous Haynes that i'd like to get rid off so if any of you guys need some tyres on wheels (5x114.3) for this one let me know.:)

Pretty sure they will; well, the back anyway, as I have a BB conversion on the front so there is no chance of that. If you cant get them down, please let me know asap mate, as I will need to do some calling around to get some from someone else.
Just got home and despite a few tyre wows at the beginning of the day I had a amazing time and feel my dori skills got a chance to progress and was nailing some transitions...I have not had a chance to try any before and this track flows very well on certain sets of corners.
The Capri looked a wicked laugh in the wet (well, Jeff had a huge grin on his face everytime he came past whilst I was marshalling), and sorry to everyone for getting told off finishing off the tyres at the end of the day. :annoyed:
midnite drifta had some bad luck with what appears to be his turbo, gutted for u mate, and hope u sort it soon. Thanks for the tyres as well!

There was nothing on the MX5 boards about it... Haynes is a bit 'progressive' for most of them, although they may have ventured to the cafe for tea and scones.... ;)

Im sorry…I will explain myself. It was 4:30 after we had all been told to leave the track 30mins early, I was in the back corner of the car park with no one watching or even within the line of sight, so I decided to finish off my tyres in a circular motion :whip: . Bit chavvy if your showing off I know, but I wasn’t, and it was the first time I had attempted it, and :ghey:ly quite enjoyed it. The part of the establishment must be near to the managers office, as he was the one who moaned to his staff.
I apologised to the caretaker guy, I think everything was fine, and I wont do it again!:smash:
Now, has anyone got some pics of me at angle?? Preferably before it started raining so hopefully including some smoke !!
I've prob got some pics Madda...
As for the 5's there on Sunday - the East Midlands Region had a group 'drive' to the Museum... Where they stopped and had tea and cake, then went home again :ghey:
Yes, very :ghey:....Cant be doing that in the 200's; they use to much fuel :wack:
Wallers took 500+ pics I am told, but I suppose its a nightmare to get them uploaded to a gallery :(
