View Full Version : **SXOC Trackday Sept 29th 07 ** CANCELLED **
I need to make sure this is what you guys want in the way of national events - Myself and Mark are here to orgainise the events YOU THE MEMBERS want. I'm leaning towards the track events so here is my plan.
Full trackday for SXOC members, costing under £100 and with camping the Friday night before a Sat event, event Sat with camping on-site afterwards.
non-track activities on sunday before driving home.
Looking at 60-90 members to take part, £70-£100 a person.
Anglesey circuit (5th Gear one) but nwo with £5M extension so looking at the middle "coastal" circuit.
In June, August or September 2007.

Sounds interesting to me:thumbs: :)
Sounds great fun.
Kev,
Just thinking, what are the thoughts behind June, August and September?
Wouldn't want dates to clash. Some ;) will be in Le Mans in June, and of course there's Trax in September.
People would need to save a bit of cash for this sort of event. The timing would make it very tricky if they had had an expensive trip to LM or needed parts etc.
Top idea though. For the Sunday perhaps driving some of the lake routes in North Wales could be fun. I downloaded a "biker's route" for TomTom the other day. Also includes various scenic stopping points.
Sounds ace  count me in.
How about an :sxoc: drift tuition day?
i will deffo be interested, will it be close date wise to JAE, living in scotlands a ball ache to get down there often with work and what not.
Dates, Well May = Japfest, July = JAE, so not one of those. Trax is the least popular event SXOC do and if we organised this in September would probably drop Trax. June or August are free but people are often on holiday around August. No dates perfect, but those 3 months are top of my list.

I'd be very interested. Tuition would be cool too.

Yes, but that could be the same 8 people looking at it a few times each, doesn't mean 50 people have looked at it.
This sounds a great idea to me, but obviously being a novice I'd like to know it was multi sessioned or similar so I knew I wouldn't be out on track with drivers lapping with a high speed difference.
Love the idea of camping as well to make it a good social weekend.

How about something closer to London, or an event down south and an event up north?
why not have a team for every location on sxoc i.e north west, north east, south east etc etc
hell yeah :sxoc: sounds great to make an entire weekend of it  judging by the popularity of the Apex meet (granted that's free) I would've thought this would be a hit

just to explain..... I voted "not interested" because my preference would be not to travel so far for a track day. Only my opinion and i have no problem with others who like the idea.
As said before, I think it would be a mistake to drop Trax as this tends to be lots of peoples "introduction" to track events......
Cheers

Thats fine Mick
I aim to go back to Trax, but if september ends up being the date for this in 2007 will probably drop it - club has has to stand in to make sure it happened last 2 years, whereas Japfest is always over-subscribed. I dont understand it but they are facts.
I voted Maybe as I like the idea a lot:nod: but the distance from me isnt ideal so it would depend on my £££ at the time.
Also I have never been on track so it would depend on wether i have grown bigger balls by then.
I really love the old circuit and this would be a perfect chance to hoon around the new one
Yep, that sounds like a plan worthy of :sxoc:

I like the idea but...
1 I think Im going to have to sell the car!!!
2 For a fault prone marque I can see that people further away wouldnt want to chance it in case armcore/bigend etc etc stops them gettin home :)
Also Sunday stuff (from bike rally experience) usually wasted as most just want to either crash/sleep in or recover or get off
edit.............................................. .................................................. .................^^^ all in their tents or just go home ;)
2 For a fault prone marque I can see that people further away wouldnt want to chance it in case armcore/bigend etc etc stops them gettin home :) Not sure I've heard of anyone in the uk having trouble from using their brake down cover to get towed home after a prang on track before.
Whats anglesey like for run off? Trying to remember 5th gear - iirc there seems to be huge amounts of run off all round the track?
Good point on the Sunday activity. But I guess thats up to people. I was going to suggest event on Sunday and club stuff on Saturday, but people still hung over driving on track might not be such a good idea :)
Not sure about run-off, as its a brand new circuit for 70% of it I suspect good - they are improving it to get BTCC, F3 and GT racing there.

August is school holiday season so might clash with a lot of people with kids.
Anglesey is fine for me and its a nice region to drive around generally - maybe even manage the evo triangle - but I do understand its quite a way for other people.

Sounds good....September would be ideal for us LeManers...I have never been to Anglesey but I have a friend just down the road so good excuse to see them! :)
Sounds good to me, so long as i dont winge about the drive!
Trax was cool this year though, would be a shame if it was dropped...
Are they completly trashing the old Anglesey circuit then?

as long as it can be sorted early enough in the year so people can book time off work.
never been to angelsey the only times i think ive been to wales were to demon tweeks day before my first trackday for a helmet/fire extinguisher/still running the engine in :wack: and when i was a little bit younger i went near shrewsbury on a PGL holiday
I'm up for it - Anglesey will be perfect for next year's machine ;)
Damn long way from Cambridge, though - how about Snetterton or Bedford next time!? ;) :D
Being a new guy and never been on track before, it does sound good to me.
Will just have to see how brave I am in putting the car round it when the time comes.
Anglesey's good from this area, but I can understand others reservations about distance. If it was in Kent, would I want to travel that far. I might've started a whole new neverending debate ... apologies in advance. :)
Bedfords a no go unless everybody gets shut of their 3" drainpipes and/or fits huge silencers and bungs - 86dB drive by VERY strict.
I'm looking at Donnington too ;)

I voted may be because although the price seems reasonable and the accomodation is all sorted, its could be more central to attract more people
I see it as a good chance to drive some great roads around wales :D

Oh yes, 2007 will be the year i start doign track days in the 200. I dont care where it happens, so long as it isnt overly expensive and you guy's dont mind a complete track numpty having a go.
You wouldn't be on your own mate. Could start a trackday/noob/numpty club. I'd join.
Like many others i'm sure, we'd all like to have a go around a lot of different tracks yet not scupper the car for the monday morning drive to work. And from what i've read on here about the trackdays, it is possible to go at your own pace whilst observing the guidelines. That way I think you can still have a fun day out without shredding tyres and brakes.
Being the club that it is, :sxoc: , I'm sure the regulars would happily give us noobs plenty of advice too.
Red_08
must admit the idea of a lap in the car of one of the track day veterens to get some advice and see a 200 driven properly would be fantastic.
Put me down. IIRC a bit of run off and then you are in the sea:eek:
i'd be up for it 100%, should have the s13 finished shortly so be nice to be able to let the old girl stretcth her legs. ( then i'll take the car fir a spin).

Provisionally 29th September, you all know how hot it was for the Apex trackday (23rd) booked the same weather ;)
Can we not do this on a different date. I suspect most people who said Yes did so before the final "winter" date was published and not realising it wouldn't be a nice sunny weekends camping. My birthday is the end of September, and the weather is nearly always shit. Another date please
I don't know what others think, but I'd rather sit out drinking beer and camping on a hot summer night :D
Its a bit tricky, but will be finalised at the end of jan.
Anglsey is being improved - work finishes end of may, June dates have a fair chance of being cancelled if they dont complete on time.
July is JAE
August was requested as a no-no with many people on holidays and Lemans
So September ....

And who is using some kind of userbar on this page - pop up keeps asking me to log in...
If I still have my car in September and it's still in Anglesey i'm there.
It's perfect for a lot of us 'Oirish' as it's only a short drive off the ferry
No login here - I typed the date wrong and you spotted the mistake I think ... it was a long time ago, votings done, date is booked sort of ... its a go as far as I know.

I looked through all the posts, but I didn't see a db noise limit?
From memory it was 101 or 105db, ie suitable, and one of the things that put me off Donnington for this event (drive by noise limit quite a few would fail)
I looked through all the posts, but I didn't see a db noise limit?
How do you get on with the screamer pipe for noise limits Geoff?
Ken, will be ok for static tests, if the exhaust is, its the drive-bys you have to watch. Geoff came a cropper at Donnington and Snetterton last year IIRC.
How do you get on with the screamer pipe for noise limits Geoff?
They have this Black flag with my name on it:o
However.......I have a cunning plan:D
The screamer pipe is being plumbed back into the down pipe, with a removable pipe just for track days. It will still scare old ladies and make small children giggle for normal road usage though:D
Exhaust should be ok Kev, its a hi-power 409 (not the silent), bit quieter thanthe nur spec I had before

LOL, might have to do something similar, where are you getting it done?
Rising Sun Performance are doing it as one of the many extras to the engine rebuild:smash:
I know that Gary @ APT plumbed Brens back in too.
I have been thinking about one of those Apexi valves that you put in the exhaust aswell, to quieten it down further.
Might have a chat with Gary then, cars there at the moment for a few minor tweaks;) AshT has one of the apexi valves, seemed good when he took me out in his motor, quiet when needed
Disregarding the noise that the screamer pipe makes, my Titanium exhaust with a decat silencer was still 120db @ Snetterton and 113db with the bung in:( I think it was 108db drive by @ Japfest II with the bung in.
The bung seems to sap so much power and makes it sound like a jet fighter. I think I will ask Ash about his valve then:)

Sorry for the minor hijack but as a track virgin I'm just wondering... Do people usually bother with track insurance? What sort of money is it?
Theres a thread in the motorsport section about insurance, see the useful threads + links sticky.
work on 10% excess, and cost for 1 day @ 1% value as a VERY rough estimation. I think more people dont both than do, nicely tends to but he has a S15 so more to lose.
