Yup that's the one. It's run by Andrew Hone nowadays. Al Packman did very well, but he basically fell out with the sport very quickly and called it a day. I still have dealings with his old crew chief Clive Bond, and basically what happened was that he got tired of the politics that were around in the day. Al was very much "the man" in Pro Modified in the mid-nineties, and obviously with that comes the tag of being the one everyone loves to hate anyway. But at the same time, Pro Mod had turned into quite a bitter class where nobody talked to anyone else. To cut a long story short, there was a fall out with one of the tracks over appearance money, which caused a drivers' strike. The other drivers fell back in line but Al didn't, meaning he could race, but not for chamionship points. This coupled with the fact he was tenth ahead in performance meant he just lost his love for it and packed up. Even going as far as throwing a pair of $1000 Alan Root Ford stroker cranks in the bin!

Shame not to see him anymore, he was quite a crowd pleaser! but I guess it gives other racers a chance. Fast-fredie appears to have become the new crowd pleaser at recent events.
As a spectator I had no idea about politics or the silent treatment among teams, seems a shame it went on...

You wouldn't believe the amount of politics and fall-outs that go off behind the scenes.
And yeah.....Freddie Fargerstrom is a legend! Anyone that can wrestle a 3000bhp '66 Chevy pick-up to a 6.28 deserves all the acolades they can get! And those 1000ft burnouts.....:smitten: :smitten:
What happened at the end?
Anyone know anything?
As the last few rounds of racing were being done on sunday a 'serious incident occured', which meant the Police came and closed the top end of the banking and the track, sealing it as a Crime Scene and bringing an end to the event!
Fantastic racing over the rest of the weekend though!
I got a semi decent pic of Team Forge from the banking which I'll try to put up later.
I was there yesterday.

Unfortunately I have heard very bad news about the incident at the end of the crowd.
I have heard a clutch blew out of its bell housing, and fatally it killed a 64 yr old grandfather.
Very sad to hear this :(
EDIT - Found this on BBC

I have heard that Danny Cockerills clutch blew out of its bell housing, and fatally it more or less decapitated a 61 yr old grandfather.
Very sad to hear this :(
Please get your facts right before posting things on the internet. I was on Danny Cockerill's crew and it was nothing to do with his car.
The ring gear on Seppo Saapola's car parted from the flywheel and exited the bellhousing. As it hit the track it rebounded, cut Danny's chute clean off and then went into the crowd and with great regret, struck the gentleman in the stomach.
I do not honestly believe it is anyone else's concern, but in the interest of fair reporting I felt the need to explain.

No probs mate. Barring the parachute, Danny's car was totally intact and fine, so I'm not exactly sure why everyone presumed it was his car that failed.

A case of chinese whispers and exaggeration, and poor witness accounts of things?

Maybe. I don't think it helped than John and Graham claimed over the PA that Danny pitched the blower belt.

 what a shame!
I've always thought it felt more a bit more dangerous to spectate up the top of the track but I've still not heard of an accident like this.
Wow, i had left by then. I was in the grandstand...

He was gutted to be honest, he didn't even go and get his trophy. All of us went from the ultimate high to rock bottom in a matter of minutes.
