View Full Version : Shocking Dealer Service in Ireland
Hi guys,
Just bought a sweet s14a touring in the uk and brought her back without a hitch... totally standard 73k fnsh, etc etc..... bloody over the moon with it.
If only everything was a simple as that though.... seeing as the car has been serviced every 6 months with a nissan dealer since new, i decided i'd probably try to keep it up, so i said i'd pay a call to my local dealer (no names mentioned yet) and talk to the guys in service and parts. The car is missing it's front splitter and i said i'd get a quote for a new one, along with clear indicators lenses (which i read on this forum you can get from main dealers..).
They asked for the chassis number, which i thought was a bit o.t.t. but duely provided it to them and when they pulled it up on the screen it showed a s14 (not a s14a) and they couldn't match the parts, naturally seeing as they are a totally different front end. In addition, they said any parts ordered would have to be paid in full before hand, they couldn't guarantee they would be the right parts and gave no refund.
I was shocked to say the least. I could give some understanding if this were a japanese version or if the car was never supplied in this market. But it has, the s14a was sold new in Ireland and the uk! Imagine, people have bought s14a's new in Ireland and are getting this crap from they're dealer!
Quite miffed by this, i decided to try another local nissan dealer only to get the same reply. Following this, I rang a uk dealer, who quite easily identified the parts and was quite helpful and quite shocked at the service I had received. I got part numbers off him and went back to my local dealer who could then get prices for me, but could still give no gaurantees etc.
Utterly frustrated at this shocking display of typical Irish ignorance and attitude, I decided to ring Nissan Ireland, who gave me pretty much the same story as the dealer, but added to the pot my insisting that a s14a doesn't exist and have never been sold in Ireland!! Which is total rot.
So, I turn to my fellow SXOC members for there wisdom and advice. Has anyone in Ireland had this experience, or know a way around it without having to go through the UK everytime? And all you guys in the uk, can you believe this! Does anyone work with a uk nissan dealer and perhaps shine some light on why these muppets are so misguided?!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Yours dejected.

ok, it appears that the s14a is only known only as a facelifted s14 to the dealers...
I was talking to Crawley Down dealers in the UK again this morning and discussing the problem and he said that he has the same system and that the diagram for the parts (which shows a s14 pre facelift) and that this is basically a bad picture, they never updated it after the s14a came out. But he said that the parts you pick out, say side repeater indicators, even though they look diferent in the diagram, they will be the right part...
Pity the boys here in ireland don't know that, back to Nissan Ireland for a gripe me thinks...
Additionally, I rang a number of Irish dealers this morning that told me that they sold a number of s14a's in the late 90's, elbeit only a few, but they did sell them. Therefore Nissan Ireland, who claim the car doesn't exist and was never sold in Ireland is speaking total rot!
Do any of you guys work in dealerships? If so, is my understanding of the parts software correct??

Yeah don't think there were very many at all sold in Ireland. I know of only one or two that are original Irish ones.
You can get most Nissan parts and more importantly lots of modifications from apex performance in the traders section.
Certainly check their price against what the dealer is saying as it's very difficult to find parts in Ireland that you can't get cheaper from the UK.

The local Nissan dealers here in Kildare are absolutly first rate, never had to pay deposits on special order parts, and they regularly go out of there way to chase parts from other dealers around the country if Nissan Ireland don't carry them in stock:thumbs:
Well it's great to be here! Waited a few years to get my hands on the right sx and finally i've got it! neddless to day i've got a shopping list as long as my arm for modifications but need to get the basics sorted first!
Where are you all located? I'm in Cork.

Irishpaddy and myself are in Dublin. There a few floating around from cork on here aswell.
You'll have to stick up some pics when you get some of the car.
im from cork. are you driving a green one
I'm from Dublin as well. Yeah, I've heard of main dealers not being able to get parts for our kind of cars, 300ZXs as well. Best bet is the net unless you know someone who works for Nissan who is willing to have a root around for you!
Welcome to the site & good luck! :)
JP
I'd try a few other dealers. Mine is an original Irish S14a that I bought from a dealer in Dublin nearly three years ago.
I've not had any problems with my dealer and one other i've been to for parts but another couple I tried was crap, wanted the chassis number for the bloody oil filter!!!
Why not name them? You had bad service and you're just recounting your experiences :)
The good dealers i've been to are Windsor Rialto and The one on the Belgard Road in Tallaght (forgot the name now)
The 'unhelpfull' ones were Nissan in Dundrum and Wexford town..boo

I do a good bit of service and repairs on a few different sx's(13's 14's and silvias) around the Kildare area and find Dunleas Nissan dealers in Kilcullen to be brilliant:thumbs:

Sorry small hijack but jpo was it you I seen a couple of weeks ago on Beaver Row in Clonskeagh. Nice Red English plated 14a passed me with some nice pigeon noise coming from under the bonnet while I was waiting at the lights to turn right in my 14a.
Cheers for the response guys, ya i've talked to a good few dealers at this stage and Lawford's in Harold's Cross and EP Mooney & Co have all been quite good to deal with and quite helpful...
Gonna have another go at them today but they're claiming a uk car is different from an Irish one, soooo Dave V, seeing as your car is an Irish one, is there any possibility I could compare chassis numbers?
Choco - no, mines midnight blue on english plates totally standard (for now anyway!) - are you driving the white silvia s14a that I see floating around?
I'm gonna give Nissan and the dealers a chance to act right, and if I don't get any better service they will be named and shamed!
Thanks for all the recommendations and will keep this thread updated as I continue...
P.S. (newbie question - how do I post photos?)

newbie question - how do I post photos?
You need to set up a photobucket (http://photobucket.com/) (or similar) account and then upload you photos there and link them to here
You can only attach images to a post without using something like photo bucket if you're a paid up member.
Ok well, If anyone else is around shout it out here....
Thanks for the tip on the photos...
im working sat night so whenever. im 10mins from the city
Ok so I've taken this issue as far as I'm going to bother...
I got in contact with the Director of After Sales Service in Nissan Ireland and he was an even bigger wa*ker! Basically he said that if I didn't order a part he couldn't help me and with regarding to the ordering of parts he said if the chassis number of the car is given to the parts people, the right part will arrive but you must give a non-refundable deposit. If the part is wrong (which he said it couldn't be wrong i.e bollox) you don't get your money back, his only explanantion for a part being wrong is if it was my fault for giving a wrong chassis number!!! Basically he said that they are infallible and really all i got from was a sense that he didn't really care about what was happening....
So it looks like thats that, Nissan Ireland are useless, I had hoped originally that such a large car manufacturer would be better than this, but the problem is with the Irish setup, typical Irish level of customer care - crap.
Thanks for the contacts though guys, I will be using the dealers you reccommended aswell as Apex in the future.
Where are Apex based in Ireland? ...or are they at all?
JP
No, i meant in the uk... sorry to get your hopes up!
And there was me thinking we had somewhere to get good parts at a decent price! I hate this country sometimes...
JP
I've from Cork also near Lissarda. @ Choco where are you based? I personally wouldn't buy anything off dealers. Japan for me!
