And managed 7 laps across 2 sessions - only 2 of which were even remotely pushing the car :wack:
It seems I have a rather large fuelling fault in the 2nd Carburettor :(
Running so lean I was melting sparkplugs within 3-4 laps:whip:
Luckily the garage directly ajoining Combe are rather good at this sort of thing so the car is booked in for a full tuneup and re-jetting next Tuesday :)
I was however, left with the remainder of the day paid for and the Westfield out of action..............
What could possibly have happened next I wonder.
:wack:

Despite the comedy bodyroll I actually managed some damn good laptimes - Down to 1:37 by the 3rd session
The Black focus was actually an ST170. I did him big stylee! To the tune of some 4-5 seconds a lap :smash:
All this became even more impressive at lunch time today when I had the front tires replaced (totally bald:whip: ) and we checked the rear brakes.....
They don't work!
What's more they probably haven't work for the past 5 months or more
And I was still out braking the 911's into the corners :wack:
I have officially entered smug mode and intend to be staying here for some time
Thats just..........................
FANTASTIC :sxoc:

I can convert them to avi ;) Your insane BTW   :D
I want a 190E! They take soooo much crap and just keep going!
Didn't see that coming :D You could've driven that straight across the infield section to cut corners ;)

Ta guys :o
Didn't see that coming :D
Yeah, who'd have thought it?
Can't say there's any precident at all..... :wack:
Pete: The problem is I have the footage on DVD rather than any usefull format
In-car from session 2, which although slow (obviously) does include me experimenting with lines and braking points to see what the Merc likes.....
The last 2-3 laps were very consistent though - 1.37's to within about .3 of a second each lap :Plug:
After that we have a couple of external clips which could often have been from a better angle shall we say:whip:
As the External stuff is so short I may try and capture them from the DVD using Fraps so we at least have some poor quality amusement
Pete is very very able to make AVI from DVD - I expect to be able to download it when I get back from Spa-ring.
Good luck getting that carb fixed :)
I like the Merc track potential :D As Tom said, i am suprised you didnt go off roading in it....
PMSL :D Can't say I'm particularly surprised that the rear brakes don't work ;)
How was the Westie, when it was working?

I never really got it near the limit to be fair. Was slowly building up the speed but was normally down to 2-3 cylinders before the car and I were ready to really go for it :(
Even while pootling about like a big girl though I was passed only twice ( Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship Astra (bloody quick! ) and the 3.9 V8 westie in my session) and was still decimating the rest of the field :D
Most of 'em got their own back in the afternoon though - Baring Mr. I've-spent-15k-on-a-hot-Focus-and-been-thrashed-by-a-700-quid-banger :wack: :D

Hearing this makes it alfully tempting to take the MX5 on a track day at combe at there was me thinking it would be totally overpowered
Ha ha, ST what :wack:
Top stuff there fella, cant wait to see some of the footage you have.

Nah, don't be silly.
You can drive, and the MX5 is a well sorted car
You may not be fastest, but your sure as hell won't be slowest :)
The fun part is eating into the 'faster' cars lead's in the corners and chicanes :D

Good and Bad news on the Westy..
The good news is she's now up 30Bhp - at the wheels  :D since this mornings tuneup. (she's now running 112 @ the wheels ~ 148 @ the fly)
The bad news is I'm running low compression on cylinders 3 and 4 so will need to remove the head, find the problem and pay out a shite load to get some machining done :(
The silver lining is that the power figures from earlier were at 5500 rpm and I was obviously loosing power due to the comp.....
When sorted and rebuilt we can expect a fair amount more power to come :D
Maybe I should look into balencing, gas flowing, porting ect while she's apart and go for silly spec ;)
