View Full Version : New dirt cheap SR20DET rods under evaluation
We have sourced some really cheap rods to look at. Theyll be cheapy cheap, under £200 a set with ARP bolts. Only if they are deemed good enough of course.

are they uprated at all or just standard replacement?
Theyre forged and heat treated 4340 steel so just a little uprated ;) 4340 is the same material used by Crower, Pauter, Carrillo etc
Hmmm. Interesting..... :)

Bren, what power are these likely to be able to take?
I might be interested in a set depending on results

probably way more than the rest of the drive train :smash:
Your valves will likely start bouncing and not closing properly before 10,000rpm ;)

how does thier weight compare to say pauters?
I dont have any digital scales so cant measure them accurately but theyre around 600grms. I dont have Pauter rodss to hand to weigh
The rods dont have a power rating applied to them but the manufacturer say they have cars running 600bhp on similar products.

And moving house I believe... How did it go? Me and Lianne have finally found a house now, just waiting for a property developer friend to have a look round before we get involved in surveys and making offers
The whole procedure was a pain, delays, problems, chasing etc.
We got the keys late Friday afternoon and started redecorating Friday evening. Then we spent all day Sat and Sun continuing decorating and moving stuff in followed by Monday and Tuesday by shopping for loads of stuff (paint, curtains etc), more decorating and unpacking boxes.
Its great having some room for a change though, after spending 8 years in a effectively a 1 bedroom flat (the second bedroom was full to the brim with stuff) our new place feels like a mansion. Its wierd to have to ask where people are :wack: :D
Im fooked now, I just want to go and sleep but when we finish here we have another evening of sorting stuff out. Nearly there though :)
It is good to have space just to chill and relax.
I know how you feel about decorating, I am in the process of refurbishing my house and it is hard going.
We gave up, was spending too much time decorating and not enough time at work so we have 'Andy 'Arry round finishing off. If we dont do it all in one hit then it wont get done and its cheaper to pay Harry to do it and come to work than do it myself.

Those rods are decent for power, I wouldn't trust them beyond 600whp, or for sustained high RPM usage.
Many a Honda engine have died due to the rods coming apart at high RPMs. They have had mixed reviews with other makes as well, typically with people looking to cheap out on extreme builds (9000+ RPM, 800whp type stuff).
Evidently the manufacturer is secret so I won't divulge who they are.
Theyre not Eagle if thats what youre thinking

The rod you have is very similar to Eagle's design which is why I mentioned the above. I'd check the rod bolt diameter to make sure it's sufficient and make sure they spec ARP2000 bolts. The early Eagle rods had a skinny ARP bolt that was prone to failure, they upgraded to a bigger ARP2000 bolt and modified cap design and failures went to very few (typically due to other issues, misshifts and the like)
We will spec the bolts :)
Hi Bren, Any news on these rods? Are you still thinking about getting them made for the CA??? I'd deffinately have a set if you were.
Matt
No, we arent going to run with them
how come were they not very good? :(
I just cant get conclusive info on them so theyre not worth the gamble
Possible to knife edge them or request them knife edged?
You knife edge cranks, not rods ;)
ah yes...... thanks... ;)
