My mate just bought an '88 model, get this........ 5 Litre V8    Porche 928! Took me for a spin in it and bloody 'ell does this thing make some noise when you boot it  :D !
It is scarily fast (anybody know the performance figures?) and made me realise just how sick my 2***** is coz it feels like a Citroen 2CV in camparison :( .

Going along a dual carriageway at 40 and he steps on the GO pedal, kickdown bites, engine howls like a Lion with it's nuts on fire and I'm flat against the seat, rollercoaster style, as soon as the rear wheels stop trying to overtake us. Before I knew it we were doing an indicated 140 and the beast was still pulling hard!
My mate slowed down at that point..... wether it was because we were running out of straight road or because I was screaming like a little girl and threatening to soil the lovely leather seats, I'll never know  .

He filled up the tank today £50-odd quid, has driven 64 miles and it's almost down to half a tank  :D !

Jonny :)

its 0-60 is about 6s (not that impressive) but its top speed is around 170mph. 320bhp and you get a bagful of torque, being a V8 ;)

you have to remember that this is porsche's idea of a supercar for the 1980s, whereas the 911 is "only" a sports car!

Nice toy but that fuel consumptions a bit scary

Whilst helping a friend do some work for a "Rich" bloke, I got myself a ride in his Ferrari 360 Modena :D

The car was so stable that when he floored it it didn't really pin you back that much... He redlined it in every gear (apart from 6th) over 8000 rpm. Doing 150mph in 5th then still got another gear to go! Took it up to 165mph which was pretty fast but incredibly stable!

Best bits were the noise with the engine behind you, and the brakes! Slowing from 160+mph to 70 in no time at all. The difference between a fast car and a supercar is amazing! I thought my 200 was fast

Oh and his every day runabout car is a Merc ML430 Brabus Styled Jeep which does less mpg than his Ferrari!

*******!

Cheers,

Richard

You think that's expensive, just wait till he needs to buy some parts......£300 for a set of ignition leads anyone? BTW that's from an independant specialist, not Porsche!

Although very nice, when Ronnie ran his Skyline at the TSC he ran 189mph in 5th with another gear to go!!!.

Thats pretty impressive. But how much work must have been put into it? Ferrari is fast out the box and imho one of the sexiest cars around at the moment. How much has he spent modding up a Skyline to go that fast? Ferrari is £103k. I don't know which I'd rather have. I guess for someone into modding cheap cars a Skyline would be wicked, but everyone wants a Ferrari don't they? Guess the Ferrari is good for him as he is loaded and cant be doing with the hassle of modifying.

He used to have a BMW which he spent over £30k modding only to repeatedly have engine blowing up, replacing this and that and still not amazing performance. Which is why he got the Ferrari.

Cheers,

Richard

P.S. He is now buying a Porshe 911 GT2 'cause one beat him in a race.... Wish I was loaded lol

heh. each to their own i suppose.

:sticking neck out here:

I always wonder what people would choose if both cars had only 100bhp. skyline would probably be chosen by nova drivers and the ferrari by posers/hairdressers.

the key thing is however that when a ferrari has 400bhp it has the handling to match. unlike the average jap car with an equivalent power... somehow i dont think a bloke in a shed can just "slam" his skyline, stick on 19"s and expect it to handle well*... ferrari (and in fact nissan for the power that a skyline is producing) have kinda invested majorly in handling for their respective cars and trying to compensate suspension-wise for the increase in power when tuning a skyline is of course possible but not by blokes in their sheds, or even (relatively) tiny garages...

maybe I'm wrong... but it makes you think.

*- and hardening the suspension isn't always the best solution for our lovely british roads

I knew they where fast, but always thought them a little "lardy" to be capable of that.

That'll be the torque talking then . . . :)

I love the kick of a turbo coming on-boost but torque is what pushes you back in your seat, and for that you need displacement.

Cheers Stuy,
those are impressive performance figures. My mates got the S4 auto tho', not the quickest of the bunch but bloomin' fast enough!

As a matter of interest, how quick should my mota be, from 0-60mph, with the below mods and 13 or so psi of boost?

Yawn...
The Starion's comparatively humble 2.0 will kick 6.4 0-60 and easily get to 155mph. OK, so the BHP or torque probably aren't as high, but the fuel consumption is better.
Oh yeah - the Starion was the fastest 2.0 on the road for a good chunkc of the 80s too and could whip a Porsches butt!!!

I love my car :)
