Hi,

I am after a digital camera and want to spend around 200 quid on one!

After provisionally looking around the canon powershot a40 looks pretty good, but thats why I am posting to try and get peoples opinions and recommendations, what do you guys recommend?

Also what other accesories are advisable to get with the camera and how much do they cost?

Best accessory i got was a USB Memory card reader.

Hook it up to the PC and transfer your pics. You can do with cables connected to your camera, but this way you can leave the reader permenantly fixed to your PC and dont require the camera.

Bout £20-£25.

Get as large a memory card as you can afford. The 8MB you get with most camera's is not enough. Get an extra battery if you can afford it too.

I went for the Canon powershot S300 With 128MB + the standard 8MB it comes with plus extra battery I bought it on holiday for £339 about 6 months ago

I've got an Olympus C-2 - now out of date :( - with USB connector & 32Mb. Can't fault it! :) Chose it because I know naff-all about digital cameras and when I bought it, it got best digi-cam write up in What Digital Camera lol. (I was the saleman's dream - went in & said I know nothing about cameras, what have you got?', listened to his spiel then nipped next door to WHS to get an independent opinion :D)

Seem to remember it was about £169.

Oh, and as Andy says, the USB connector is a damn good idea :D
