If you want a laugh and fancy taking the pee out of my blowing gasket, come round mine tonight

Will be taking the turbo/manifold out etc and putting in braided pipes at the same time. Most likely will get the stuff out tonight (as waiting for car to cool down) and maybe put it back in/or finish the job tomorrow morning.

Also have some nice new indiglo dials, but not sticking those in till i get some hi brightness leds as well :D Maybe hot pink ones, just a nod of respect in to Mr. Chan of course  ;)

Turbo off day for me today as well. The weld on the sleeve the wastegate arm moves through had failed and the sleeve had moved a couple mil towards the inner arch. Just enough to jam the penny valve against the exhuast housing not allowing it to shut completely and mean that i get full boost at 5.3krpm. Should be a bit of a weapon spooling 2k sooner!

Its all off now after a couple hours mincing singlehanded, is a pretty easy job. Could see it being a problem if a few less easy to access manifold to head nuts were on the very tight side of tight though. Wire brushing the threads is your friend on any exhaust stud or nut. I also didnt bother with undoing the awkward elbow to downpipe bolts, i undid the downpipe at the decat end and lifted the lot out. Makes it a bit more awkward to lift out but a solution if you dont fancy the elbow to downpipe nuts.

Good luck with it.

Just gotta get my turbo sleeve welded tomorrow and we are back in business.

Why i've got off i thought i may aswell whack a tubular mani on too and kill 2 birds with one stone(see how long it lasts)

Ok... since I knew in advance that the turbo elbow was seized to the downpipe, I knew my only course of action was to remove Manifold + Turbo + Elbow + Downpipe all in one go! This not only made it a mare to pull out of the bay due to the physical size, but it was flippin heavy!! Back throbbing a bit lol.

Anyway arms scratched up, and the whole lump is out  Not very good when it's dark though. Got dark 2.5 hours into the job. During that time I had to stop to take a call from Melissa as well.

Anyway.. phase 2 tomorrow, fitting all the stuff back in and somehow repairing the cable on the lambda sensor, as I scratched it against the abs heatshield :( Major bummer.

They are heavy with the downpipe still attached  :wack:

If you'll pardon the pun, you've broken the back of the job and the rest should be easy

I put a thingy up in s14 technical as well, as I thought it may be more useful there. Although... this is an event that is taking place tomorrow from around 9am :wack: :smash:

btw Atich> In the end didn't go to JAE as we hadn't budgeted for it and didn't realise how much it was gonna cost us (at least £150 for the weekend). I will be there next year  with a budget to match :D I STILL owe you a beer :notworthy I'm 'hoping' to get to the awesome track day bren is setting up, so with luck and if my car is actually stopped being wierd, i will be there to say hello

Long shot but dont suppose you have a spare copper washer for the banjo on the oil feed to turbo at the block end. The standard two washer joined together jobbie. Thought you may have seeing as you have braided lines to go on. Managed to lose mine, and Nissan wont get them in till Tuesday.

:D Lol you twats! I'm not THAT elusive.

Skipped refitting yesterday and started today Matt and to say its getting on my tits is an understatement. Havent even got the assembley back on the studs yet. The clearance between the tubular manifold and the ABS pump is non existent. Seriously losing patience with it now...

Just seen this Matt mate. Thanks for the offer dude but all sorted now.

Problem was i didnt split the downpipe due to seized bolts, but with the downpipe on the end and 1 and half hours messing it simply wasnt going to go back in. Had to hammer and chisel the sezied bolts and split the elbow from the downpipe which is what i should have done in the first place.

Ah well all back together now and no sign of any leaks from the feeds. Just need to get some downpipe to elbow nuts from the nut and bolt place in the morning and we are ready to rock.

lol. Made sure I used WD40 and got them unsiezed this time when they were out of the car. Last time i couldn't do it, this time i could, don't ask me how, i don't know lol. At least this time to fit a downpipe i won't have to take the lot out again.. although I think that i will by an elbow as well, which means it may be easier to take the lot out lol.
