how about a thread just for the heroics, terror, laughs, f*** me moments etc

f*** me, that was a storm and a half. there were 6 of us hanging onto the MK/Beds gazebo, and we didn't loose it, although one strut was crumpled.

we even managed to catch a few of the tents in the area, and provide additional ballast for George's plastic palace, which almost folded flat, but didn't fly.

thought it may have made the news as the police and ambulanc were called, but they seemed more bothered about 50 yachts off norfolk, caught in the same storm:rolleyes:

and a big :notworthy to me, for seeeing it coming, and taking my tent down well before it hit:thumbs:

and me, from serious cacking myself !. i was sat in my car (which was my tent actually ! :D ) , even the back of my car was wobbling from the wind, thee most scariest storm ever that was, and yeah, i spotted it coming too, just didnt realise it would be that heavy !. scary watching people just hang on for dear life to stop there tents being blown away, and getting battered by the rain too !

It was the highlight of the weekend, the massive gazeebo on the stand, with aboud 10 people holding onto each side, one side left open, and the BBQ feeding the inhabitants (whilst also smoking them all) :D Such a good laugh in there, and who would believe that, one of the pegged out SXOC banners would survive unattended the opposite side of the stand!!!!!

Hope everyone who used Vez cabs during the storm appreciated it

I spent 10 mins trying to wrestle with the tent next to Dave S and Jesus (formerly known as skyline matt ;) ), couldn't find any pegs left holding it down and it started pulling me along as it turned into a giant kite - had to let go due to lack of pegs to secure it down again and help with the gazebo nearby that was in danger of taking out some cars - crazy!

I'm sooooo glad I put some fecking huge pegs in for my guy ropes :)

:D You didnt see the smacking that me and SM gave those stakes with Jon's lump hammer. Also we had lernt how to put up those banner on stakes after doing the first one near the marqee which was a bit of bodge in the end even though we went back to have anoth go with it.

I think the twobrutal tent suffered the same 'almost blowing away' action that the SXOC tent did.

Must admit, I was a bit worried holding down the metal frame of the tent when the lightning was flashing around :D

The two lessons I learnt were:

1. Take your tent down during the day

2. Living 15 miles away from the show is awesome if you need to abort due to seriously leaky tent...

I wish i could've stuck around, but i'd have been sleeping in a puddle, I'll be investing in a storm proof tent for next years event!

My el cheapo hallfrauds tent stayed intact and upright during it all myself and the g/f sat inside it to stop it blowing away though she nearly had heart failure at every strong gust

Just buy a decent tent, seriously - they're so cheap nowadays and they last for years. I've had mine 5 years now, it's survived 5 JAE's with no problem - and various other trips away.

Hadn't even staked mine in that well, and it stayed put throughout

mine cost me about £15 2 years ago... So new tent, probably costing a bit more, will be on the way in the near future....

The tent's survived two years worth of camping trips, so i'm not too bothered that it died this time around....

I've just tried to upload the pics I took and found why my camera stopped working after Saturday afternoon - the card slot was full of water

I was hanging onto the gazeebo on the stand, by the open flap, and my shorts were soaked. I forgot the camera was in my pocket until I went out to jump start someones car :wack: :D

My tent was hardcore, I was at farnborough in the middle of a thunder & lightning storm instead closest strike 2 miles away lol. Blew over eventually but still got soaked. Tent managed to hold itself down all day whilst i wasn't there. Maybe the close proximity of the tents in 'camp bayside' helped the situation? :)

That storm was mental, we were out watching the drifting and saw this bugger rolling across the sky!

We jumped under the Marquee outside the drifting arena and ended up being battered with huge rain and hanging onto the marquee with 5 other people stopping it blowing away! Got a couple of free Autoglym T-Shirts out of it though :D

It soon turned into this ....

http://static.flickr.com/60/196330065_1235fc33b9_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dave-stretch/sets/72157594209002684/)

and we ended up in my car for about 30 minutes until it calmed down enough to run to the tent.

Luckily our tent stayed put but the air-vent cover had blown off letting all the rain straight into the sleeping area soaking the sleeping bags :(

We ended up sleeping in our cars that night :D

we lost two gazeebos to the great JAE hurracain, one of our nice metal framed ones which went to join the GT4 stand (sadly doing some damage on the way :censored: ) and our 9M long one that basically imploded :wack:

My tent was flattened.... stayed pagged down and popped back up when the wind let off though

Lill vid of our 9m one letting go... dont ask why my mate was filming it... lol

After spending 20 mins knocking pegs into mud to stop the tent blowing away Mrs Alg and I were so wet through that after washingff under a tap I think we were actually drier!!

Well done to all in the SXOC Marquee, I saw Jolly F shift sideways three feet in the first few seconds as he was dragged across the ground with the first gust:notworthy

It was a cracking atmosphere and didn't dampen anyones spirits in the slightest:sxoc:

I was holding the SXOC stand 'kite' down with others when I got a bit selfish and thought maybe it was time I checked mine and Dave610s tents...
Just aswell. Mine was fine in comparison to Daves which was floating around the site on one remainign tent peg. When I arrived at the tents it was actually on its side! :wack:

And wet inside cos the dumbass hadnt done the zip up on the doors :wack:

I left the sxoc shelter and got a lift off someone in a red s13 to go check on the tents, cheers who ever you were ???, all 3 tents i put up survived and considering one of them was mellon stu's and it was bodged together with the flyshet on in the most unusal way ever, it was rather surprising, the storm was great though

I spent half an hour (with many others  ) trying to hold the front of the SXOC marquee from taking off, ending up doing chin ups because I was bored and my feet didn't touch the ground anyway
When I got back and found my tent it had a fair bit of wet mud inside, so I took it all apart, turned it inside-out and went for a shower with it :wack: cleaned it off quite nicely :D

i was one of the ppl pushing against the wind in the sxoc shelter then i thought ' shit james and i left our doors open on our tents!'

a quick and very wet run down proved this and although luckily mine was dry inside due to facing in opposite direction james' open tent faced the wind and rain and had collapsed leaving half his clothes outside:D

so i shoved all his gear into the dry patch under the collapsed tent and made haste back to the shelter for food:rolleyes:

It was a pretty impreesive weather outburst for our country. My tent was fine but out Midlands gazebo bought it big time whilst stoofer and sienna were trying to save it, but another cheapo one we had survived with only minor injuries so to speak.

My poor dog didn't like it (flipping wus) as I opened the car door to get my coat out she forced her way in between the back seat and front seat and I had to drag her out, then I opened my tent door and and she jumped in there, straight into the back on to my bed leaving big muddy foot prints - and she's supposed to be a tough boxer dog
