Basically the 330ci pulls away ever so slowly and I mean slowly I was very suprised how well the SX performed considering how loverly the grunty BMW 3.0 litre block sounds at full chat where as mine sounds like a low whistle.

To be honest on each of the runs it was more of a case of who got the drop on the other person at the start. (apart from when Bri's tranny protection system spoilt his fun). I would like to take them both to a proper quarter mile run for a more exact measurement but I think the cheapo SX showed its more than value for money.

The best comment from Bri was. "That car will own when you spend about 600 quid on it. I am stuck with the power I have now on the beemer. The only way for that thing is up".

(experiment took place on prvt airfield )

My brother has a 330ci sport and it's very quick, not sure my S14a would get that close to it....

The beemer is 243 std bhp???? not sure really, and what with traction control.......

231bhp but a heavier car. Which balances everything out quite nicely.

All I can say is it was close from both our perspectives but the BMW we think has the edge. Looking forward to running the experiment again at various stages of the upgrade.

You should perhaps ask your brother to put it against yours :D

I think you will be surprised at how well jap crap can perform.

AMDAthlonUK - I was the BMW driver. On paper, the S14a 200SX is actually 0.1 seconds quicker over tthe 1/4 mile run so they are actually very evenly matched. It was a damp night so the BMW's traction control helped later on when we were doing standing start stuff.

Hmmmm......a mate of mine turned up the other day in his new 330CI, boasting about how quick it was etc....anyway went for a little blast up the nearest *cough* private road *cough* and he couldn't get away from me at all, all the way to about 130ish!!!!

I was quite surprised really as my car is only slightly toasted (chip/zorst/k&n/15psi)

He let me drive it home and he took my 200, what a cracking motor the beemer was, the interior is something else and the engine sounds fantastic....soooo smooooth!

£36k BMW or £3k Nissan?

£3k Nissan and a chunk off the mortgage methinks.

Might buy a beemer when I win the lottery though, always fancied an M5.
