Ive got a Panasonic NV-DS27 digital video camera and finally want to connect it to my PC.

What are your suggestions? Cheap is vitally important, and easy too.:)

I spoke to AndyF and he suggested....

or

Are all these firewire and card thingys pretty much all the same or are some better than others?

They're pretty much all the same. Texas Instruments chipsets are on board the most expensive ones, D-Link etc, and there's usually A N Other chipset on the cheapy ones, but they all work fine. I've had experience of a few of both and in actual use, there's no difference to be honest.

You could connect in using gaffer tape, or am I missing the point? ;)

I would agree with Stimpy.

IMHO I would go for the one that offers the best deal with bundled software, since they're all pretty much the same price - give or take a few quid.

Anyone got any decent software they would like to send me on CD?

All the packages in the shops are silly money (well, to me, Mr Tightarse)

What sort of software Mr C? Let me know what you want and I'm sure something can be arranged :D

Dont know really, havent a clue about all this sort of thing. Just need something to get it from my vidcam to the PC and then edit and compress it so I can get it on the sminternet.

How I do this will only be explained after I have randomly hit buttons and been through the confusion process.:)

I might be getting a copy of Adobe Premier. Is that any good?

Yep, that's a good one. Not very easy to use if you've never done this sort of thing before though. The actual capture process is relatively straightforward though, it's the actual composition stuff that's a bit difficult to get to grips with with Premiere, ie, actually editing the footage. However check out this page:

It's AVI_IO and it's my video capture app of choice. In my opinion it's the video capture app par excellence, and it's *very* easy to use. Plus has the added bonus of being able to work as a digital VCR if you have a TV tuner card. It's excellent.
