McClaren had a call from an F1 owner in Germany. He said he was getting fuel starvation problems on his commute to work, and that it was happening on every day, both to and from work.
McClaren F1s have on-board data-logging kit and modems, so they got him to hook it up and they downloaded the data for the last 7 days. Sure enough, they were able to confirm the fuel starvation problem, and confirm that it was happening to him every morning and every evening. This was diagnosed as a fault in the chip programming, which caused it to fail to deliver the correct amount of fuel at a
particular speed. It affected all F1s, but this was the first report they'd had.
The speed at which the fault presented? And which the German guy was reaching every morning and every evening while commuting to work?
212mph.
