Hi everyone,
Did my first sprint today, at Bentwaters Parks, nr Ipswich.
The car's an '86 Toyota MR2 Mk1a, with an Induction kit & exhaust and because of that, I'm racing in the Road Modified class, 1400cc to 2000cc. The only other mods are Pagid fast road pads, so it's nowhere near as "modified" as some of the stuff I'll be up against (yet...) :p
Had a good day, steadily improving my times and I was 4th in my class (out of 7) after the first timed run. unfortunately, on my last run, I locked the front brakes going into the high speed turn onto the main drag, overshooting the course. I only needed to make up 2 seconds to move up to 3rd place, so I think I was trying to make up too much in one go :wack:
So in our class it looked like this:
XR3i 1:52.18
MGF 1:53.83
Xsara 1:56.47
Me 1:58.10
Tipo 1:58.40
Pug 205 1:59.57
Fiesta RS1800 2:00.34
I'm happy, it was my first event and everyone else had at least a years experience, so not bad me thinks :D
I was still gutted to miss out on a trophy though... wanted to follow in Yak & Kevs footsteps :p

Yeah, it was excellent, could have done with a decent photographer though ;)

I didn't know either, until about 3 weeks ago :D I go to Qatar on Wednesday for 2 months, so my next event will be after that, possibly Hethel on August 6th

If i'd used the S13, I'd have got whupped  Porsche GT3 RS, BMW M Coupe, Subaru Impreza etc, the only thing slower would have been the Mk3 Supra that couldn't complete a lap without leaving the track
That's why I went with the MR2, at least there's a limit

Not bumpy at all, but that's with 20 year old suspension :wack: I'll try and sort the video, it's not "onboard" but might help you out. Usual airfield circuit, just a sea of cones
Raz :)

You should have given me a shout:nod:

For National racing, helmet has to be of BS6658 - 85 Type A, which most motorcycle lids are. Regulation Q10.3.1 ;) :p
I bought the numbers as a pack, from Merlin Motorsport :)

Sorted the video, it's a bit repetitive but gives you the general idea. On the last run you can see I'm going considerably quicker than previous runs, which combined with the late braking, meant I was never going to make the corner :smash:

This is the sort of stuff I need to see to inspire me to get my MR2 back on the road
Well done Raz! You've done it! :D
So, how modified were the cars ahead of you? Are you going to get a lightweight bucket seat, etc? Was Emma excited? What did she think of the whole thing?
Where did you get your Pagid Pads from, BTW?
Just off to check out the video... ;)

So, how modified were the cars ahead of you? The MGF & Xsara were pretty standard, but driven by very experienced drivers. Xsara was 170bhp as well ;) The escort was a full race-prepped Mk5 XR3i
Are you going to get a lightweight bucket seat, etc? I've got a full shopping list :D What seat has karen got in hers?
Was Emma excited? She was asleep most of the morning...but yeah, she enjoyed it. She'd been driving Impreza & Evo rally cars the day before, as well as a Ferrari 360, so she was still on a bit of a high from that!
What did she think of the whole thing? She wants to have a go...
Where did you get your Pagid Pads from, BTW? www.needforspeed.com, but they took a month to come through.
Thanks for all your help over the last few weeks
Well done Raz  cracking result for your first go :notworthy
cheers for the vid, as you say looks nice and smooth. I still have a back twinge just thinking of North Weald:no: .
I assume the smoke was just a lockup? liked the commentary:thumbs:

Thanks mate, not bad considering I've only done 3 trackdays prior to this :D

Yeah, I locked up due to panic braking. All the weight is at the back in the MR2, so it's easily done :o
The missus knew I'd just thrown away the chance of a trophy, so that's why she called me a monkey :wack:
