Hi All,

I've got a harness bar built into the roll bar on the mazda, so don't need eyelets to support shoulder straps for a harness. However, I don't know what kind of harnesses I'd need - all of the ones I've seen come with a clip type fastening to use with eye bolts - I understand that the belts just loop round the bar and are buckled down... (see http://www.gagme.com/greg/911/hacks/slideshow.php?sect=harness&fn=harness2.jpg ) for what I'm on about...

I can't seem to find any harnesses that look like they'd fit though - they all have perm eye bolts on the top straps...

Any ideas / suggestions / recommendations? :)

Cheers,

Jon

just speak to harness manufacturers or someone like Demon Tweeks as most of them do them, just not as popular so they dont put them in the catalogue. Ihave a Luke harness fitted to mine that loops round roll cage.
I seem to remember seeing that you could buy the 'buckle' bit so taht you can convert an eyelet style to cage style. (makes sense in my head:wack: )

Hi Jon,

I bought a sabelt 5 point harness from Peter Lloyd Rallying, and the rear straps are looped around a bar on the rollcage in our MR2 MK1 race car.

They come with clips and eye-bolts, but these are removed and the adjustment buckles are used to keep the loop over the bar tight. The instructions supplied cover this.

I assume it's the same for Luke, Sparco, etc.

Rich

Ahh - cool... I didn't realise it was that simple :D

So - 5 point harness - 2 shoulder (round the roll bar), 2 side (existing belt mountings with eyelets), one centre, which I guess requires additional bolts dependant on the car?

Is a 5 point the best type to get for track use (will prob keep the standard belts for road use - being an LHD car it's a pain in the arse on left turns, as you have to lean forwards to see).

Will probably have standard seats for a while, looking to get some decent replacements (currently looking at corbeau roadster 7's or sparco roadsters) - mx5's need narrow seats - standard buckets look to be a right PITA to get in and out of due to the size of the thing too...

You won't be able to use a 5 or 6 point with standard seats - you need a crutch strap slot. Just leave them unattached untilk you buy the buckets.

Se7ens use silly narrow seats, look for specialists or if you are feeling rich try some nice reverie ones.

Cool - but they look a bit hardcore for day to day use ;)

A few companies are making narrower seats for small cars - there's a bit list of seats that fit on one of the US sites, so I should be OK :)

Actually - they are Cobra Roadster 7's, not corbeau...

or

Actually - I'm guessing that you can only use a 4 point harness with both of those, as they don't have the required slots in the bottom...

Yeah, they are going in an MX5. There's no reason why you couldn't swap the seats in a convertible...

What reason did they give you?

no anchor point etc

I think that's car dependant, not just because it's got no roof...

If you got ones that you could use standard belts with safely, you would be OK though :)
