View Full Version : FAO Papa Lazarou--re importing
You mentioned in a previous post that you had used http://www.showatrade.com and had your S14 imported. Could you please give me an idea of what's involved in going down this route as a friend of mine is looking at importing a Supra and has seen one he fancies on that site. Many thanks.

Hi, have a look through http://www.car-imports.com/costs_from_japan.htm to give an idea of costs.
You can save a bit if you pick it up from the docks yourself, and do all the running around for the SVA test. If I was doing now I would do this, for various reasons rather than have an agent involved. Its not difficult :)
Procedures are basically -
Register on site
Buy car on auction
Pay for car, and let them know where you want it shipped (Soton docks usually)
Pay shipping costs
Pay custom clearance, duty, vat
Up to this point will take 6 weeks or so.
Then you have to : -
Prep car for SVA
Get SVA test
Register + tax car
This can vary as the SVA centers tend to have long waiting lists (had to wait 3 months for mine, might be quicker now though!!)
Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on. Cheers.

I cant see the prices of the cars anywhere on the showatrade website ? is this an auction site ?
I think I see now, do you have to type in the maximum amount you willing to pay, bit like ebay ?
