View Full Version : turbo trouble
well as some of you know i blew my turbo about 4 weeks ago and bought a gt28 from xs power. put it on but as soon as it started up it was grinding as whistling. so i sent it back and they sent me a new one, 2 weeks later it arrived (today). I put it on and it started up fine, let it tick over on my drive for 10/15 mins to warm her up but as it reached between quarter and a half temp on the gauge the oil started dripping out of the feed line, so i turned it off and guess what the turbo started grinding, like my teeth at that point.
so now i have had my car off the road longer then i have owned it and im out of ideas. i am 90% sure that it was not my fault but then how could the same thing happen to two brand new turbos?
because the first turbo went i checked the oil feeds were ok, checked the water feeds were ok, replaced all the piping for braided hoses, everything was brand new, and it still went without even driving it.
any help would be much appreciated.
Steve
buy cheap, buy twice :)
you need to buy a decent turbo mate
Sorry to hear the second one is naffed aswell... The only thing i can think of is to speak to XS again and explain its fecked again... and see if they will give you a refund or send you another unit! If this aint a road to go down then all i can suggest is to take it somewhere to get it stripped down to find why it keeps doing it... may be a design fault...
Think Elvis or his old man has something to do with turbo engineering???
Good luck mate... would be good to see out and about in her again!

bought a gt28 from xs power
says it all. get a refund and buy a proper turbo is the best advice i can give. xs power are utter utter shite.
That is real bad luck :( I would ask for a refund.. xs power have a bad rep here with quality.
BTW> I think a mod will point out that this section is Events/Meets and not the place to post problems etc. You can wack this sort of thing into 200sx or s13 technical :)
Best of luck getting your money back, and then talk to Bren at Apex :)
Matthew
When mine started puffing a week after buying the car, I was straight on the phone to bren & ordered a genuine Garrett replacement. Too valuable a part to cut corners on. As the others say, get a refund & have a chat to Apex.
i didnt realise how bad shite xs were, took a gamble realy not knowing who they were but i will have to learn from my mistake. will get on the phone to xs today and then find a decent turbo!
sorry forgot this was a meets and events section, maybe one of the mods can move it?

how much further do you want to go with your power mods mate?
if not much further (300ish) then look at the gt28r
if you want to push a little bit more and head for 350ish then get a gt28rs
:)
i have just got a full refund from xs power so i am now looking for the best option, i wanted a gt28rs to start but now i will be happy just to use it again. so i am looking around for another turbo now.
