View Full Version : NTL Broadband?
Anyone who has broadband from NTL think it's beginning to feel slower??:(
I have the 512 or whatever connection and the other day i was downloading some music from qtraxmax (not sure about this place either) and i could barely access the internet to get onto the sxoc, i was lterally waiting 30 secs to a minute for pagesto upload??:( :(
Not just that though it just generally feels slow??:(
Anyone else? or is my computer fecked???
You could try reintalling the drivers for your cable modem. I know ADSL modems do odd things like this once in a while and a reinstall usually does the trick. Mine did exactly this a few days ago, but it turned out the be the cable connecting the ADSL modem to the phone line in my case :( Try a quick reinstall and see if it does the trick. Is your cable modem internal or external? What version of Windows are you running? Or are you running Linux or a Mac?

Have a look Here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/index.html) and try switching the proxy you use proxy swap (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/trancache.html).
Mine plays up sometimes and usually if I swap to another local proxy it speeds up again. You can also use one of the BT webcaches as well just don't set them up on port 80 as it will get redirected to the normal NTL servers.
ewwww transparent proxies!!

You can bypass the transparent web cache by configuring your web browser explicitly to use another proxy cache that accepts requests on a port other than 80 (usually 8080 or 3128). Because the request is made on a port other than 80, the transparent cache does not intercept the request.
I'll be honest most of this is going over my head but i'll have a fiddle and see what happens?!!
I'm running XP prof and it's connected through a network card in the comp that goes to the NTL digital box!!
