Guy at work had this sent to him from his family in canada, just remind me never to go there:eek:
The attached pictures are of a guy who works for the forest service in
Alaska. He was out deer hunting. A large...large world record Griz
charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy unloaded a 7mm Mag
Semi-auto into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The thing
was still alive so he reloaded and capped it in the head. It was over
one thousand six hundred pounds, 12'6" high at the shoulder standing p.
It's a world record. The bear had killed a couple of other people. Of
course, the game department did not let him keep it. Think about it.
This thing on it's hind legs could walk up to the average single story
house and could look on the roof at eye level.

Hmmm scenario, 1600Lbs of muscle standing 12 ft 6" claws the size of fingers and a mouth you could fit your head into decides you look tastey enough to eat and makes a charge for you, do you a) run like Fu*k b) freeze c)throw it your packed lunch and hope it'll be distracted d) shoot it and pray

I'd say options a,b,c would mean iminant death, d however offers you a slight chance, he was damn lucky to bring that thing down with a pistol.

Sitting painfully on the fence here, and not wishing to pass comment

...............but would the bear have charged him if he hadnt been in the woods shooting Deer - I think that was Dave's point.

Exactly, that bear must've been around for a long time to be so big. Its a shame some inbred tw@t with a sister for a mother had to shoot the bloody thing.

I say he's a curnt.....so there :D

Hmm...
Why was he shooting deer? Coz another part of his anatomy wouldn't shoot I guess...

IMHO there is no excuse for going hunting... Shame the bear didn't nibble on him... and there are ways of getting out of the way...

Stopping anything bigger than a Rabbit with a 7mm Semi Auto takes some doing.

A 7mm will be low velocity, it'd hit the bear and stop - penetrating the skull of something like that would be impossible.

I knew a squaddie who took four 9mm rounds to the chest in country in the province. He was running around for about 20 minutes before he realised he'd been shot. Turns out that his combat smock had slowed the rounds down enough to not really do anything that you'd call damage.

If that photo is real, then that is one lucky sonnofabiatch.

As for hunting - good luck to him.

As for the bear - don't run around scaring people with guns!
