yeah idle is all over the shop, misfires intermittenly on running clears a bit with boost then comes back and has sod all power

ok
Went to a guys place to try his parts and the afm was differnt (wrong pins) he said it will run fine with more of a drop in compression than that (hes had a few) he looked at my afm and said it had been drilled out in the screw hole????? and that it was running rich as the plugs were black and it stinks!!
Am i right in thinking that this need adjusting on a co machine this would not cause a miss though?
Also he suggested adjusting the cas a little is this advisable or am i just stalling the inevitable???

adjusting the cas will alter the timing, you need a gun on it if your going to do that.
have you checked for air leaks? if you blip the throttle on idle do the revs come back down at a reasonable rate or do they come down quite slowly?

from the manual
standard compression is 171psi
minnimum is 142pis
max difference between cylinders is 14psi

tbh, if its just the rings then you can get it sorted over a weekend if you hit it hard, and have the new rings ready. tbh though. whilst the engines out id take the time to do a nice rebuild

is it easier to lift whole thing out of car or remove head and sump??

Everything on a 200sx engine is easier when its out of the car:nod:
You may as well as put a new set on BE bearings in there when your at it and have a good look over the crank. New cambelts a good idea too. I know the cost will all add up but you may as well as do whatever you can now then you should have a soundish engine:thumbs:

also, whilst its out, depending on the mileage and your intended mods in the future, change the pumps and stick some wiseco pistons in there :)
