View Full Version : Exhaust Bung

Does anyone know if you can buy an exhaust bung as a seperate item, something along the lines of the Blitz one. Reason I'm asking is I'm hoping to get a custom built exhaust on the Supe in the next few weeks, but can't be arsed with silencers etc. Yep, you heard it right, going for 2.5 inch pipework, to a 4 inch or so tailpipe. Its been done before, the turbo provides some noise reduction! Sounds really nice, but I'd like the car to pass an MOT

:D Haha :D no silencers? :D Haha :D
do it, but keep the paracetamol to hand :)
Ur probably better off getting the custom shop to make u a bung, as the blitz is very expensive for what it is and will only fit blitz zorsts.

There are no noise restrictions for MOTs mate, as long as it passes the emissions, and it's secured well, then it'll pass.

:)

I don't think emissions will be a problem. It will however be a bit loud. :D :D :D :D

I did my emissions test with the bung on the NUR out.. :D

As long as the system is in good nick, they can't fail you for the noise, mate :)

How do you stand with the bacon though? Noise nuisance etc etc

I haven't been stopped, and I'd hazard a bet that the NUR is not that easily surpassed in the noise stakes, and I don't even have a s/s downpipe or de-cat pipe yet, either..

You're thinking about the Wootten Megadeafen Everythingless Child-scaring, Billing-wakening, Flame-spitting System-of-extreme-Volume, right?

Noise - horrifically illegal. Extremely so - they'd have to invent a new word to describe it if they collar him.

However, it does have the immense advantage of being attached to a good-looking, well-made GT car as opposed to a Paxo or Coarser, so the bacon are less likely to nab you. I wouldn't go anywhere near Southend in it though...

As for MoT, volume isn't checked, just emissions. I'd recommend taking it to a tame MoT station anyway though.

I do have a bung you can try though, just so long as I can grab it back in case I have to go on a noise-limited trackday (I'll give plenty of notice).

Shall I bring it to the Boxhill on Sat?

I've heard what he's intending to copy, and trust me, a TVR at full-chat in a tunnel would be thoroughly drowned out by this exhaust...

With respect, I can safely say that an unrestricted (no silencers) pipe on a Supra = approx 130 db peak volume. Lots of crackles, pops and bangs = loads of frightened kids/old ladies :D :D

Makes a Top Fuel car sound quiet :D Well Almost.

Yup, its true and will be sorted v.soon.
Would the argument of using the turbo as a silencer stand up?
Ah bollo**s, especially to all the killjoys in the world, if they can hear it, most probably they'll get out the way, so it'll be an added safety feature then! ;)

Blackwall Tunnel should make a good place to test it, about 2am, I'll get a recording if at all possible.

Rotherhithe Tunnel, It's Narrower and it looks and sounds mental at 120mph on the straight section ;) :D

Right, thought that I should resurrect this thread, as I've gone and done the deed. Nice shiny new pipe, almost straight along the whole length of the car, nice 4 inch tailpipe (well everything is 4 inch diameter from diff back) no silencers or other restrictions and Jesus it is a bit loud, its no joke that I can hear it about a mile away :D

Be interesting now to see how long it takes to get nicked, I've driven about at 1am and in a silent town its scary! Getting a bung made up, but I suspect it won't make very much difference.

Makes the car go a bit quicker now though, seems when the cats left, they took my silencer with them officer!

Oh, on a serious note, does anyone have any advice on Dynamat or similar sound deadening for in the boot.

On my prelude vtec i had a Kakimoto full racing exhaust, and that was bloody loud and thru a tunnel if u had the window down and had wer e ragging it, it was deafening, it literally hurt your ears, so i dont wanna imagine what that supra will be like!!! it would be deadly, but oh so much fun!!:D

Nope, believe me, this is much louder. Has a Top Fuel kind of roar about it. Yes, 1 am through Maldon Higstreet with the added echo off the buildings was... fun :D

Get some sound deadening matting and some 12mm Sound proofing felt from Bob's. That's what I did to sound proof the boot against my Hiper, but I doubt it will do much for your pipe. :D

Yep, from what I've read I'm gonna have to build a non-turbo car to keep up in the noise stakes . . . . ;) :p :D

I'm seriously starting to have doubts about how sensible an option this was. I think the man responsible is working on a bung, to be honest the sooner the better, I think I'm gonna be sailing too close to the wind with the law atm. I'm going to TSC Sunday, anyone there will see what I mean, no to mention they'll probably hear me coming over the Orwell bridge from Woodbridge!

A noisy exhaust can and will fail. Heres the criteria for it :

a silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a silencer in average condition.

Having said that, I aint ever failed a car for a noisy exhaust. Unless it was leaking!

PMSL!! Sorry matey but Im not suprised! Bean drove to work with ear blocker thingys in for a couple of weeks after killing the bung in his Nur Spec and that was on an S14! God knows what your Supra sounds like. Bet its cool when driving past but I wouldnt want to sit in it for more than a few mins ;)

Good on ya to give it a try though :D

So what your saying is it will pass baased on the fact that its brand new, solid and shiny. There are no silencers, so there isn't anything to be in any sort of condition or type :D

I do agree on the point of it being noisy though ;)

I think there's things in the boot reverberating, have to empty it and see. Gonna get some sound deadening, but overall, I reckon it must be getting a bit of soot inside or something 'cos its kind of getting more mellow, either that or I'm getting used to it :D

It's not getting quieter, you're going deaf mate!

I get a kinda thunderous gurgle at WOT below 2k rpm which makes the whole car shake, but after that it's perfectly bearable.

I wonder if me playing drums in a rock band for six years has anything to do with the fact that I don't think mine's too loud? :D

What's your handle on mkiiisupra.net btw?

Hi Adam,

I guess I must be getting used to it, doesn't turn heads like I expected, but still sounds good, btw I'm Gawaine_T on mkiiisupra.net
