View Full Version : Thoughts on Honda S2000

Well I've just been out in my friends new S2000, thought you guys might like to know what it was like.
With the two of us driving our own cars, and in a straightline, not that much in it once moving, so it's not that it's got a real massive power advantage.
In it though, different matter entirely. I didn't get to drive it, but certainly got plenty of feedback whilst a passenger. Obvious thoughts were:
- Nice interior. Consistent finish, hi-grade plastics, loads of headroom (even with the hood up), good seats. Only problems were that it wasn't that wide (not a prob to me, but could be if you're 6' 3") and that it just didn't excite you like say a Boxter interior, which has real desirability.
The bonnet looks great from inside, cool.
- Once moving, and at normal speeds it was quiet and refrained.
- The suspension seems compliant, despite having very little body roll. The steering appeared to be VERY direct as even small movement in the wheel resulted in it changing it's direction.
- And then there was the engine. If you've ever heard an MR2 (mk1) engine really revving, it was a bit like a harder version of that, to 7500, at which point the second power band cuts in and it continues on to 9000. Completely raving mad, just gotta love it.
So, in summary, this is a real sportcar, just as an SLK is a nice girlie sportscar, i.e. safe, fast etc, the S2000 is a REAL hardcore sportscar.
you should try a skyline then:) :D
I like the S2000 - excellent engine. I'd like to turbo one :) A bit weighty though, due to the extra strength needed in an open top car.
Took one out for a test drive when I was buying the SX. The VTEC engine is great, when you hit the higher revs the cam profiles chnage and the power (not to mention the noise) was phenomenal.:D
Couldn't justify paying the extra £10,000 and the insurance was horrendous. I think it was because it was a convertible as the SX is Group 17 and the S2000 is group 20!!!
Glad I stuck with the SX though, it's a better all rounder and rarer on the road (or seems it!):)

I want one of those engine start buttons :)
Its the sensible sports car choice, reliable never break, drives well at low and high speed and gives good mile per gallon and cheap insurance. The compete opposite to a fast sports car like TVR Cerbera , never starts, breaks down, insurance is A JOKE, crap mile per gallon but for people who have been in one, sends you smashing in your seat as you think bloody hell thats what fast feels like as you hit 150 mph so fast a skyline seems Pedestrian.

Still haven't been on the same stretch of road as the geek at work that just got one.
Have just emailed ND for a quote for fitting a T28 Hybrid.
If that all goes ahead i will be looking!!:D

My sisters Boyfriend used to have one, he used to let me borrow it for the day, I loved it, handles well, sounds lurvely when you open it up, not as quick as me 2***** though I dont think, well not now anyway, if mine was standard then maybe.
If I was buying a convertable then the S2000 would be my 1st choice.
Dave.

skyline pedestrian have you ever raced a skyline in a tvr cerbera from a standing start (i don't think so) or you would'nt have made these comments.

Can a Skyline do a standing mile in under 30 seconds?
The S2000 is a nice car, but I would have preferred if they hadn't gone the IVTEC route(Intelligent VTEC) because it makes the power delivery more progressive, not like the balls out mad to 9,500 rpm Integra Type R engine.
Now that Mini at the Halfway House........

loving it mate!going to a few meets there are some awesome cars out there
as to the cerberra well standing starts they scrabble as traction is'nt a big part of TVR tuning rolling start well it would beat the skyline in any guise but thats standard most skylines are modded so maybe honors would be even?but TVR's break down alot don't they so maybe it would'nt get to the finish and in the wet ....forget it.

i doubt it most do around 12ish secs for a quater mile so i don't think so but then i seriously doubt many cars could without being stripped out to the bear essentials....go on tell me i'm wrong.

Cerbera did a standing mile in under 30seconds on one of Clarksons programs. :)

30 Second Mile... Each quarter mile becomes progressively quicker, I wouldn't have thought a skyline would be much adrift of 30 seconds anyway.

yes i saw this, rumour has it that TVR strips out it's "show cars" to get better performance so they look good on telly i've heard also that the same cars never get near a forecourt as there tuned differently to the normal versions.these rumours have come from various sources so maybe there true.i would think alot of manufacturers do this the new ford focus RS is said to be not quite as fast or have the bhp figure ford are claiming.

i've been digging out some info on skylines to answer your question apparently the R33 GTR will do a mile in 27 secs from a standing start.

what are you talking about "APPARENTLY" - TEST IT MAN!!!;)
all i can say arry is things start coming at you at great speed 160 mph is easy for this car it just goes and goes and cornering...sticks to the road like sh*t to a blanket you can take corners at silly speeds it won't stray it's just holding your nerve that's the problem.now i think this thread has strayed a bit were'nt we all disscussing the s2000 ? i've been i one and must say i was impressed same sort of performance from a standard MR 2 GTS but for a non turboed car the s2000 will take some beating handling was'nt bad either.

I agree, because the Caterham JPE (The then fastest acclerating car) was beaten completely.
the caterham jpe that's the one with two engines or is it two gear boxes or maybe both i can't remember tiff needle broke it did'nt he i saw it on a telly program.

Taking a car to 9500rpm would make me wince a little, saying that the BMW engine in the williams was the 1st to break the 19000 rpm barrier the other week   Id be like FFS change up a gear
Talking of TVRs.....
A bloke I work with has just chopped in his V6 Clio for a 390bhp Tuscan.
He also owns a Honda Fireblade and reckons the TVR accelerates FASTER!!!
He took it out a week or so back at night and, on a dry road, got the back wheels to pick up......at over a ton!
I asked him if anybody has had a go at him yet.......he had a S*xo try to goad him into a 'race' on a DC.....
Oh, dear.....

i cant say too much about the honda s2000, other than its a really great looking car :)
my lil bro has a civic VTi and the VTEC in that has me smiling everytime i have a go in it, so i assume the s2000 must be astounding. I love the motorbike sound that the VTEC engines give off as you get them wound up :D
as per usual, roll on my 200sx, then i can beat my lil bro again, as right now his civic would eat my little GTi alive
