Does anyone here have any experience with these, specifically the 4x4 Quadra version? Someone in work has asked me as I apparently ‘know about cars’ (RALMAO :D )

I know they are pretty quick about 170bhp isn’t it? Would imagine the standard fwd jobby is hugely scrabbly but reckon the Quadra should be ok?

I wouldn’t have one on the basis of it being French (they just can’t build cars, or couldn’t in the 80’s and early 90’s anyway), but are these reliable and are they tunable? If you can tune them, how easily and what sort of power are we talking about without going nuts?

Any experiences or pearls of wisdom appreciated :)

Hi Jeff!
The R21 2L turbo was one of the best french car.
We talk of a 2L turbo 180HP std engine, so it IS tuneable.
I had a discussion with a "road-killed" :D R21 guy.
He told me they were very reliable, and you can mod them the same way as the 200 (i.e exhaust, air filter, boost, IC, chip, etc...)
His engine was pulling 240HP with the "mild" mods quoted above, but the car is heavier than the 200 (AND FWD):D :D

Sorry, that's about everything I know about that car...

Hope it helps

Cheers

There was one at Trax who did a 4.75 0 - 60 time, basically stock with an uprated intercooler, more boost and nitrous ;)

There seems to be quite a few who had basically fitted uprated intercoolers and bigger turbos, there looked to be a lot of room round the engine to work on them and fit uprated gear.

I was impressed with how they went, just a shame they're french:( Too many bad experiences of Frenh cars...

Thanks guys :)

The fellas been offered a 21 Turbo Quadra for £2500 it's J reg, red with leather. Sounds nice but don't know the mileage. Gut feeling is it should be lowish mileage and in decent nick for that money? Private sale not a dealer BTW :)

This is a little off topic, but at least it was amusing at the time.

Couple of years ago, spotted a 21 turbo with a ridiculously cheap price tag, so went to look at it.
Strangely it had a 1.7 badge on the back and was a hatch.

So there I am thinking of cars using a Renault 1.7 engine with a turbo, the only one I could think of was the Volvo 480 and 340 series cars.

Either way, the owner was adamant that it was a turbo, so I take it for a test drive. Rather unsurprisingly it was completely hopeless in a straight line, yet the owner is sat that saying "the last guy who drove it was really impressed when the turbo cut in".

Maybe the owner smoked dope whilst driving it.
