just when i started to get the hang useing my computer,it seems iv messed it up:confused:
can anyone help with some advice:rolleyes:
i have a late Dell running xp,
the history is-
made the mistake of not installing antivirus,messed up many windows files had to be binned,so i reinstalled windows as a repair,but did not repair,i later reinstalled as a new instalation,but now running 2 XPs the old messed up and new,have to choose on start up.
been trying to format but it says that "there is another volume in use"
Can anyone help me please i have been pulling my hair out for weeks?

Hi there,

1: Do you only have one partition or 1 HDD??? If not, then see step 3.

2: Backup all Data that you want to keep onto CDR or tape or whatever you use to backup (you DO backup don't you ??? ;) )

3: Backup all Data that you want to keep onto the other partition / HDD.

4: Boot from XP CD* and when asked where you want to install XP, choose your C partition and hit D to delete it. It will ask if you REALLY want to do this, hit L to confirm that you do (assuming you've finished backing up!!!!

5: Select "Unpartitioned Space" and hit [ENTER]. Choose your Filesystem that you want / require (NTFS / FAT32) and proceed with the installation as normal! :)

*If you are installing from a partition on an HDD then when you run setup it copies temp files to your C: drive and won't let you format it!! Make sure you boot from CD
