View Full Version : plymouth rr day
just following on from the post in the street nights thread i though id post up to see what sort of interest there would be in a RR day at one of the rollers in plymouth.
channie has said he's spoken to AP and they can organise something for us, so they might be favourite.
as for a date, that can be finalised later depending on haw many people want to come
so, post up bellow if you interested and also choose which day you would prefer it on :)

2-insane200 either day
As mammoth said ive spoken to AP motors, and there more than happy for us to have our own RR day. But just out of courtesy we should supply them with decent numbers so its worth while for them to host. They've said we can have runs at club rates £25 ago.
But if anyone has any other venues then post 'em!
Failing geting the numners (which i hope we can get!) there is a day arranged on the 8th for the Celtic cruize lot, but it is there event, so Andy from AP is asking if they mind us tagging along during there run, or we could go after them??? It would be convienent for them (as there already open), and its on the 8th, so plenty of time to organise.
But once again please post your ideas...
Count me in. AP would be my preferred choice of location too.
p.s Channie boy. You drive a low white S15 with Jap style exhaust don't you? If so, you drove past the Golden Hind pub down by Manadon roundabout the other day whilst i was inside. You car looked awesome.
Yep that was me! if you see me about honk or
Just about to have the front lowered abit more...
Voted either day :)
If a saturday would be better late morning onwards for me. I work about 1 min away from AP. Motors so pass it about 4 times a day lol (we pick up engines from them as well).
Matt
Count me in - the 8th at AP would be good.
Hopefully i'll have my SX running stage 1 by then, so would be good to see how she's looking on the rollers.
AL
p.s. I havent met the guy, but Adam0BMX0 mentioned that he was going to the celtic RR on the 8th, so im sure thats one more for our list.

Si, its the same day ain't it?
So yes i guess :wack:
no, this thread was to gauge interest of us having our own day. if people want to meet up on the 8th then thats cool.
marsh mills at 10ish?
Voted Sunday, but there's no real point with my car atm considering it's stock engine wise :(
will give you a base figure so you have something to check your mods against
Good point, definately will go along, just a case of do I or don't I on the day :)
hmm. think we need to start this again as there might be some confusion as to the threads intention.
we need a list of who's going on the 8th and who'd be up for a RR day of our own.

We 'were' going to arrange an SXOC event (Original intenion of this thread!)
From the looks of things everyone is going on the 8th, but would everyone who votedin the poll want our own day??

I though Alan Jefferys was very good and knew what he was doing when i went on the weekend, even if car was down on power (my prob though)

 Wot horror story do you have???
Ive got a few about them and my RX7! So dont get them to do work unless absolutly last resort.
Only suggested AP coz they'll let us do runs for £25 ago, and their rolling road is top notch, and brand spanking new
Personally - i havent been that impressed with Alan Jeffery
He did 3 runs in my mates Lotus Esprit with the handbrake slightly on
When i went a couple of weeks ago, he disconnected my fuel pressure regulator to take a boost reading for his dyno. (I didnt realise he'd done this til afterwards)
p.s. i need my SX servicing - any recomended garages?
I was kinda thinking i'd use AP, but sounds like they're not great either!
Ive not had any problems with AP when it comes to nissans and evos, the only problem was with my rotory! It was overfueling something horrible, i left it with them for 3 days, during which i even supplied them with a power fc to help diagnose the problem, they basically claimed that the tips had gone and needed a full rebuild or new engine! After 5mins of taking it off them, i looked at the pfc commander and saw that it wasnt getting an accurate reading from the intake sensor (Unless it was -45 deg outside!), got a new one for a tenner, problem solved! They didnt charge me for the 3 days the car was with them and setting up the power fc on the rollers...
It seems like mighty mini might have a horror story but waiting for him to post:rolleyes:

I cant be bothered to go into too much detail.. but here are 3 stories.
First off, a power run.. i dont mind them doing.. but if they touch the bonnet catch....im off.
1. My first experience was with my mini turbo, i had spent alot of time building this car and built and engine from scratch. Ive been doing this for nearly 5 years so i should pretty much know what im doing.
Between running the engine in and booking a session at AP, i had covered just over 2000miles faultlessly. The car was setup to book values and the AVCR kept a good eye on boost spikes/odd readings.
Cutting to the chase, they managed to get my car running 104BHP@Wheels and 148ft/lb torque. it drove fairly well, that was good.
Anyway, a week later....
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/5919/piston0ih.jpg
Thinking it must have been something I had done, i never took it any further.
then a week after that my mate books his pulsar in for a setup.
They had his car for a month, used 2 tanks of fuel (and billed him generously for it), had the injectors recon'd, new alternator, new actuator.. that seemed to fix why the car was hesitating which was good.
They rolling roaded it with around 260-280BHP i think and when he got it back. i pissed on him with my stage 1 200sx.
it was worse, so he took it back and it turns out that to get the most power on the rollers they remove the fuel filter and after setting it up it was put back on. Turns out that it was the fuel filter causing the hesitations and nothing else.
so he got a £900 bill (fuel filter thrown in for free :wack: )
I was also talking to a guy who took his Skyline there and 10mins later it was back, being towed by RAC.. he got a full rebuild out of them for that..
Im not bitter anymore, i just dont want people to be done over by their shiney workshop and polite staff.
They cant tune for shit! setting up my avcr they had to use the manual!
</rant>
like i said, power runs will be fine, but setting it up.. no way.
Dave
Fair enough - cant argue with that.
Maybe i'll go elsewhere (except for RR power runs)
Hehe m8s FD went into AP to get a service as according to them "we knows rotaries inside & out". Came back from them with the clifford alarm shorted (deactivate & drivers door locks, activate & drivers door unlocks, windows motors & proximity sensor no longer working), was also pissing coolant everywhere, they sheared several bolts on the heat shields as well. And tried to charge him £450 quid for it :S Ended up costing him 900 smackers up at dragon to semi-fix it :(
Needless to say I ain't taking my car in there for any work.
EDIT - now I've ranted... :D Will be taking my baby over to DB Autos in Saltash - Adam has used them previously as well, and I've known the owners brother for nearly 12 years now so I know I won't get screwed about with :)
Oh yeah i forgot to mention when i took my FD in to be looked at by there aparent specialist, they made good use of my workshop manual i left in the book, pages torn, scribbled on and oil covered. They didnt have any problems putting my camber arms on, apart from the fact they didnt notice the shocks on the passenger side were bent, and theyput the bolts on the wrong way round so it actualled started cutting into the dodgy shock! If the shocks were new i would have gone mental, but a s it was i didnt notice till i put the new ones on...
Im guessing the general census is the RR is ok? But the work is lame!?!?
If so...
shall we find some where that knows how to use a RR and provide decent servicing and tuning?? The best place ive been was option, but theyve closed and still owe some peeps some money, and they were near silverstone
Any body got any ideas?????
AJ is the place to go for tuning!!
if you want your diesel transit/iveco van sorted go and see Kev at AP.
dont get me wrong, andy, the MD knows his stuff and has an excellent reputation, but as he doesnt do any of the work anymore and none of them have any real experience in tuning cars i would stay well away!

In the 1st week of owning my SX it broke down, rang around for local places that had a tow an DB was the closest, so it went to them.
Seemed like a decent place and they fixed the car, although were quite expensive.
Basically i broke down slowly as i came home from Plymouth uni, lol. As soon as the car died i just new it was the fuel pump, and let them knew when i was picked up to test the pump 1st.
I even supplied the pump and it still cost me £140 :wack:
Although he did say there was some sort of short in the pump relay/leccy system so i just put it down to that.
Channie, i dont know any other local places with an RR :( , anyone?
I cant comment on AP or AJ's work as i've never had anythng done, but it sounds as though both companies have thier good and bad issues.
Adam
hey does anyone on here own a green Vplate s14 if so i saw you on embankment road today. i had work on my RS Tyrbo by AJ i was very happy but i also had work done by carburation and injection who i think dont trade anymore and they were shite
Adam,
Only prob with DB is that he doesnt have an electronics guy on site, so has to get one in :( Probs why it cost so much.
GarySX: It may well have been me mate - Green SX on V plate.
Guys
Im going to suggest we stick with AP motors for an SX RR on the 8th/9th.
At the end of the day, its only a power run we're after.
Any other recommendations for a garage to do my service?
(Mumfords want £270)
AL
DONT GO ANYWHERE NEAR MUMFORDS!!
like most nissan dealers they are robbing bastards!
its not actually a SX RR day on the 8th, we've just been allowed to run during someone elses RR day.
Yeah i agree with mammoth, Mumfords say £270, until you get a phone call saying they recommend you change this or that else your car will die!
Well if were all goin on the 8th neway, we might as welll leave an SX RR day till a later date, so we can get some mods and see the lack of increase they provide  !
But we should defo have our own day at some point... its team building... good for the soul... we could all hug... and sing songs...
lmao.
we could just go up to the SSRR day in the other thread.
alsx it was aorund 5ish that i saw the car very nice by the way. oh and yeah leave the RR day till lateron in the year i may have mine by then:thumbs:
"alsx it was aorund 5ish that i saw the car very nice by the way"
Cheers Gary :)
Needs some work though - turbo gaskets need changing amoungst other stuff
I plan to be running stage1 before too long, not sure if it'll be in time for the 8th though
If you're carless on the 8th, and need a lift to AP, let me know.
AL
cheers al but ill be there in fez or the misses car but ill have a good look at your motor if you dont mind
