View Full Version : S13 and S14 front lower brace - NEW

bren
07-03-2006, 13:12
We have a batch of front lower braces on order. They tighten the front end of the car up nicely and we have one on our S13.

Theyre going to be £49 normally but I dont mind an introductory GB if you guys are interested?

Ill get a pic of the one fitted to our S13 when it stops raining :wack:

Ok this may be a dumb question, but is this something similar to the Nismo power brace?

bren
07-03-2006, 13:35
It does a similar job, this is the Nismo Power Brace:

http://www.apexperformance.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=120_121_126&products_id=578&PHPSESSID=4a15eac7836fc7fdccf1c1e92a065952

The bar above strenthens the structure like the horizontal brace in the Power Brace does.

Bren, where do these fit, i.e. which bits of the car do the ends attach to?

bren
14-03-2006, 12:46
If you open the bonnet and look down past the fan cowling then youll see two metal arms running at 45 degrees near the anti roll bar. The brace bridges the gap between the arms. Our S13 isnt here at the moment or Id get a pic of one fitted, Ill find one from somewhere.

TG1
14-03-2006, 12:49
Yeah sort of but in completely different ways :)

14-03-2006, 13:39
would this make any difference to a car with coilover, uprated ARB's and strut braces?

Jolly F
14-03-2006, 14:29
Hang on, i was asking a valid question as in my case i may be better of buying a nismo one from you?

Richy_Boy
14-03-2006, 14:31
Maybe you should ask by PM then Jolly? For what it's worth, I think you have raised a valid point, although maybe a discussion worthy of the 200sx section?

Rich

bren
14-03-2006, 14:49
The Nismo runs a welded solid bar from one support to the other. The Nismo also has box section inserted within the supports.

Ours are bolt on and dont give the box section. Based on the design of ours over the solid bar of the Nismo Id say the Nismo was stronger. Bu tthen its also harder to fit (still not hard though) and £135.

As to the strength of the chassis in that position I couldnt say.

Jolly F
14-03-2006, 14:54
Thats a nicer reply. They must be an improvement otherwise there wouldn't be a market for them. I was just wondering with all my other chassis mods whether in my case nismo would be better. But your talking £100 difference.

I'm sure this will be a succesful group buy quite rightfully...

Dom_S13
14-03-2006, 15:25
yeah put me down for one Bren, any chance of a PM to remind me?

bren
14-03-2006, 15:37

You keyboard warrior you. We'll call that a misunderstanding then. If you thought i was saying that then i say your actions where totally justified.

I want one or the other really as i'm sure any bracing is better than standard. For me spending all this money on suspension at the moment i just wanted to know best for me really...

The Nismo, by Brens own admission, although likely to be 3X the cost of the Apex in the group buy I suspect.

If I had one of these braces and a handbrake locking button is it possible to wait until the subframe collars are in so it can all be sent together?

If so let me know and put it on the usual card, surname Mapp, I'd like all 3 together to save on postage

For anyone who wants some more fitting pictures have a look on my RB26 thread :)

You have to drop the front ARB to get a socket on the nut but it's literally a 20 min job all in :)

Same problem here. I just bent the bracket a bit to move the pipe and put a piece of foam/rubber packing i had lying around in between the brace and the pipe. I think the pipe goes to the steering rack so it nowt too important :wack: If there is a post later saying "Car went straight through a hedge!" you will know it all ended in tears

Got my brace fitted today thanks to Chris at APT:Plug: although there is a hard pipe (power steering?) touching the brace.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures (I forgot my camera and had to use my phone).

Ive spoken to Gary. The brace touches the power steering rack pipe but he says the pipe just needs a tweak to get the clearance. Im assuming this is a UK car issue as the brace is pretty much identical to the Cusco item and the Cusco is listed for the S13, 180SX, S14 and S15. I tested the braces on our S13 and it fitted fine so I assumed theyd fit the others fine. If anyone wants to return the brace then its not a problem. From what Gary and Chris said its not a real problem though
