Jeff & I have been having a chat about what sort of events we should organise in 2006. We've got a few ideas, some obvious, some not so :)

I've posted a poll above for you to state your preferences. If anyone has anything to add like a suggestion of venue or a whole new event idea completely then please post on the thread and we'll add to the poll where appropriate

I'm sure most of this doesn't require explanation but:

Haynes Day: Trackday at the ever popular Haynes Motor Museum Circuit in Yeovil. Small track, but cheap and usually very cheerful

RR Day: Rolling Road day at a local venue (I'm told Janspeed was very popular?) so y'all can put some numbers and a graph to your car's performance :D

Subsidised Trackday: We don't think that there'll be enough interest to book a whole circuit for the day for our exclusive use, but we had an idea that we could choose a pre-organised day (Book-a-Track or similar), and offer a small subsidy for members wanting to go along, in order to get us all at the same circuit on the same day! Suggestions for venues welcome, Castle Combe is one that immediately springs to mind :)

Karting: Self-explanatory, suggestions as to venue welcome.

Ten-pin Bowling: Lots of interest last time but most people didn't manage to make it (myself included), lots of fun was had by all who did (according to Jeff :wack: )

Paintball: Self-explanatory, suggestions as to venue welcome.

Other: Let us know what else you fancy, car-related or social! :)

I've voted for all bar the last one because I can't think of anything right now :D

All I'll say about paintball is avoid Delta Force Direct ;)

Why, are they a team or something? I know nothing about paintball, done it once and avoided it ever since because it hurts and I'm a big sissy :ghey:

Have voted for Haynes, subbed trackday, Karting, and bowling. reasons as follows...

Haynes: you just can't go wrong there :D (unless you join myself and AndyD in the 'speshial' parking place ;) )

RR day: I'm bored of them now but don't let that stop you

Subbed trackday: would be great but while I still have the 200 I'm as flakey on this as a famous Cadbury's choccy bar :( When the replacement is sourced I should be totally available though :D

Karting: the Welsh boys did this last year and it was an absolute hoot, I've also gone to karting days with other clubs and they're always fantastic fun if you have the numbers to do a GP:D

Bowling: great as a social event

Paintball: I'm too lazy to be honest and always spend too much on ammo :wack:

other: dunno

I only voted for one thing (I didn't realise you could vote for multiple things :annoyed: )

Haynes Day - sounds good

Subbed trackday - my top choice

Karting (there's a place just over the M5 near aztec west that's ok, I think you can do karting at castle combe as well)

Paintball - frickin awesome fun, would love to do this again

Bowling (doesn't need to be subsidised IMO, it's pretty cheap anyhow :) )

RR day - we did one fairly recently, I'm not interested in another at the moment

Other ideas:

What about one of those outdoors places where you get to drive off road buggies (like on Top Gear)

Rock climbing? or indoor climbing somewhere?

Marc

ohh rock climbing, i remember that from when i was younger.

they used it in scouts as a good confidence builder, great fun

another vote for that.

Delta Force run paintball centres all over the place. Very badly.

Outdoor activities sound like a laugh, not usually organised by car clubs either so that would be cool

Paintball at Hamburger Hill would be quality, been a load of times quality set-up, im going 2mro (sat 4th) so i will get some details if you like.

Karting rules! If we go south i hear that twin engine outdoor karting is available near taunton. Have tryed out quite a few of the more local tracks,

Winterbourne = Very small, not very tech - but fun in the rain:thumbs:
Cheddar = Medium sized few tech bits of track, karts feel slow, have mini-bikes there too.
Wroughton = Great if your on a mini-bike, crap for karting, karts arent quick enough to need to break for all but one of the bends.
Halavington = Not being able to organise a piss up in a pub, comes to mind:ghey:
Raceway Avonmouth = Very tech trac k& quick karts, karts all feel quick but some are streets ahead in the handling department.

You forgot Castle combe best marshalls in the country resonable karts better than most and a very technical track

But if you want something fast (get away from the lawnmowers)should go to Clay down near Yeovil (but even Twin lawnmowers don`t even get close to proper karting)

Not tryed castle combe, could be worth a shout.

Very interested in Clay Down, think thats the place i have been told about  that i mentioned thinking it was in Taunton.
Herd that there is a simillar setup in Llandow (say: Clandow), Wales, where they have the track days.

Anywhere with fast karts gets my nod, especially on a track where you can hammer the big breaking zones :wack:

It`s Clay Pigeon, Llandow is a good track built a track extension last year two very technical (tight) complexs but the last time I was there the corporate carts looked a bit rough (but they might have bought a new fleet)

some thing like illegal street racing late at night and then on to some industrial estate drifting, maybe a tad of dogging thrown in.

Clay Pigeon raceway is awesome, especially in the p****ing rain:wack:

Spent more time in the mud:eek:

I spose it was that that kinda inspired me to go rear wheel drive!!!:D

I am up for nearly all things, a track day just for us lot would be ideal, ......... ideal opportunity to learn, and ideal opportunity to meet as many people in the area as poss!

Havn't been up to check yet so hadn't realised that....

I propose you guys sort us a discounted day at the Forest experience in the Mk1 Escorts instead then! :D
That would be a fooking blast and a half! :D :Plug:

Ohhhhhh..... I get the chance to tell an admin type to do a bloody search! :wack: :smash:

Result #1 from google : Smugness (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=the+forest+experience&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB) :D

The Forest experience website (http://www.forestrally.co.uk/) ;)

It's a long way away but is ment to be absolutely amazing, they also do modern AWD rally cars too - but we all know that's :ghey: and the Escorts are where it's at

I'm thinking the full day course -link (http://www.forestrally.co.uk/courses-full-day.htm)- although a discount on their price would really be rather nice :wack:

If you look into it you'll need to specify we want proper hairy chested RWD cars BTW  (MK2 Ford Escort RS2000 Gravel spec cars :smitten: :notworthy )

If we get a subbed trackday, how about sorting some cheap instruction (or sourcing 'instructors' from within the club)? I still feel a little intimidated signing up for stuff, especially when some of the big power boys are out to play, and a little guidance wouldn't go amiss. Or am I just being :ghey: ?

Jeff
15-03-2006, 10:06
FMG: Cheers, will look in to it. Depends if we have enough interest, don't want to organise it and just you and me turn up (wouldn't be the 1st time) :D

dj c: We were offered instruction at the last Haynes day but I turned it down due to cost. We have a bigger budget this year so I'll look in to it for the next one :) TBH there are a couple of people in the club that are more than capable of giving out some useful driving pointers, hopefully for nowt ;)

Haynes of course, but I'm in a car with one of those whirry spinny things with the blades now. Not some slow fat yankmobile.

Will need to take it slow and careful :(

Organise a local meet. That's what we did in Southampton :)

i was at haynes with driftuk just over a week ago, lovely little track to drift if a little tight:eek: that was pretty much a sx meet, as all the cars there were s13's apart from me in my s12:wave: but from what ive herd a few local residents complained about the noise and the local council have slapped a 3 month ban on all trackday/driftdays there:down: rd 1 of eurodrift was supposed to be there yesterday but has been moved to silverstone next week:(
i would probably be up for a cheap trackday somewhere tho:thumbs:

The Plymouth lot have organised meets in the past IIRC, also a fair number of the guys meet at the Exeter services Jap meet every month. So there are already a few meets down there. :)

The problem always used to be that there were very few Devon and Cornwall members which made it hard for people to organise stuff, while up here we have a fair collection in and around Bristol/Bath/Swindon/Glos ect so it's easier to do...
The most south westerly event we've found to organise are the Haynes days, of which I believe there have now been 4 ( )
Get yourself to the next one of those

Jeff
27-03-2006, 10:01
There has also been a meet in Newquay I believe. We now have a helper monkey (Psyches) for the deepest darkest corner of the South West, so there is a good chance there will be more Cornwall/Devon events this year :)

I'll speak to Haynes about this ban, sounds bad if it's true, I was hoping to get us a day down there some time in spring/early summer :(

Hmmm, not entirely good news on this front. Haynes have introduced a strict 98dB noise limit :( Feedback from Pete suggests anything louder than a Mongoose is likely to be too loud? Anyone got any more thoughts on that?

Further bad news is that the secret seems to be out and prices have gone up accordingly  Still not too bad but more than we've paid before :(

Half day = £300 up to 6 vehicles + £40 per additional vehicle

Full day = £400 up to 7 vehicles + £50 per additional vehicle

Thoughts?

Not too much of a hike, but only 7 cars.... :(

98dB is fine for me :D 84 with my Silent Hi-Power.... :p all you loud boys are starting to regret it now, aren't you...? Still, a bung won't restrict that much at a venue like Haynes...

lol - thanks for the offer. Am hoping that once the engine is done, there's nothing else can possibly go wrong with it... I mean what's left? Just the clutch, I suppose!

Think I might have spotted you tonight, heading from Mannington up towards Old Town. Can't be that many navy S13s in Swindon?
