as my toyo t1-r's melted at my last trackday i decided to get these
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m12b252s685p5588
seem cheap, can anyone list any other trackday tyres out there, or tyres that
are better suited to trackdaysand and that don't cost the earth:)

DJ01's are good

R888's arent bad by all accounts, as long as its dry.
I like rally slicks, bren hates them, Phatbob has tried them and likes them. Maxsport RB5/Pirelli RS75 ect - all the same FIA tread poattern

will i have any trouble running these at trackdays, and how long do you think they will last

bren

I think they are E Marked, Im sure theyre road legal  Maybe thats why theyre cheap.

I've got a set of the Maxsport rally slicks in my garage for this year's trackday season, and my Stevenage chums are getting a set each too.

We should be able to give a pretty detailed review of them after our frist trackday on March the 4th.

i was thinking that but they are not slicks due to the 'cut'

bren

They are ok on tracks without a cage

Ive just emailed camskill to find out whyt hey arent road legal, thats strange. Maybe theyre form a one make race series or something?

Theyre cheap though and are an excellent tyre

Depends on the trackday company, BaT you do.

I need to plan ... I've some full slicks, 2 rally slicks, and some DJ01's ready, but maybe want to keep the DJ01's for Spa

I'd like to use the slicks at Donnington, but ... well still deciding if cage and coilovers can be done by then, and maybe missed the chance due to time :(

would it need tobe an FIA aproved one and can you use an half cage

bren

It doesnt have to be FIA and half a cage is fine. You dont need a cage with D01Js though

do road legal tyres need the 'E' mark
camskill say in the advert "THIS TYRE HAS NOT BEEN E MARKED,AND IS FOR TRACK DAY USE ONLY"

bren
15-02-2006, 18:56
Yeah, they have to be E marked, thats why I think they must be for a one make race series or simialr, then they wouldnt need to be e marked but wouldnt have the same value as the road legal ones.

The whole point of Do1Js etc is that you can drive to the track, rag around on very high quality race spec tyres and drive home on them. If you cant drive there and back on the rubber then you might as well fit slicks and have done with it.

BUT, you cant run slicks without a cage with most track companies so it makes these specific tyres ideal for you guys who dont have a cage. The different with top end road tyres (F1s, T1Ss etc) and D01Js is huge  :notworthy

£90 is an absolute bargain and I might buy 8 for my own use, I cant get them for anything like that money

SM

I'm sure DJ01's are fine on the road, I'd check mine but they are on the bottom on a pile ... unless you really want me too.

Yakko - msn - to chat about maxsport

They have 16" as well for £90, usually £140 it says.
Thats a bargin IMO.
Although for £52 you can have rally slicks, probably last half the time though, go off after a few laps if bren is driving, but probably stickier no cage needed for these either, road legals.

About how long they last, the set I have here look not far from new, and have done 1 or 2 trackdays on Tomm's car.

Demon Tweeks told me that Colwell rally tyres wouldnt perform any better, if as well as, Dunlop D01Js when i was looking to the best legal rubber for TOTB2.

bren
15-02-2006, 20:56
Ok, got a reply from Cam:

"You are quite right they are all the same and are 'E' marked spec.

Dunlop made a batch and although the tyre is identical to the 'E' marked one whoever made up the sidewall plate for the mould did not put in the 'E' logo and thus they are not 'E' marked and obviously cannot be sold as such so Dunlop reduced the price.

If you do not need to run them on the public highway then they are a bargain - if you need to run them on the road then they are no good.

Hope this answers your query.

If they are ok for you do not wait forever because at that price they are a one off and wont be repeated again hopefully for Dunlop - they probably sacked the guy for it ;-)

Can order online or phone to discuss etc on 01946-518202"

Im asking for a trade discount and if I get one then I will be buying a batch

As the Dunlop Issue is solved :D :D

What is the relative performance of R888s against A048Rs?

In the silly little size I run the Yokos are almost twice the price of the Toyos, I'm thinking they can't provide twice the performance.

For the record:
A048R - £112
R888 - £67

D01J's are the knackers - I got a set off of Richie last summer and immediately declared it "best mod ever" :notworthy

The downside was the wear rate, but tbh Ive got prolly 5000 miles out of them now. Replacements are out of the question with 235/18/40's weighing in at £200 a corner :(

I managed to get a set of strange Yoko semi slicks this year so we shall see, but if I had the money Id go straight back out and buy DO1's

I assume thats road, nto track, I'd be happy with 15% of that on the track, 600miles, 4 trackdays, although I bought mine used too, couldnt afford them @ £130/corner

With a car that was running only 0.9bar I found the medium compound Maxsport's to give me a load more grip than the F1's I'd been using before hand. At Silverstone I did notice that they'd suddenly let go though which had me spinning off on a couple of corners. For the money they're a good bet, should me engine ever actually get built I'll need something wider and stickier. Apparently MaxSport do a 17" tyre now.
You pays your money, you takes your choice.

Oh aye, road use, no burnouts/drifting

They are lethal in standing water and like castors in ice or frost, but its a laff :D
Oh and the 245/18's I had were (overkill) £200 odd a corner

so r888's are ok for 5000miles? i do about this a year with the odd track day well traxs etc.. and santa pod a few times. Do you think these will last a year 5000miles?

most of my miles are done driving to france and back to le mans 24h race

i use toyo Toyo T1-R which did wear alot last year at traxs
