View Full Version : Drift Academy Day?

I have decided to arrange a day drift course, I have been in touch with Drift Academy and they have stated they would be happy to arrange an exclusive day if I can get enough participants, an excerpt from an email received -
We'll be confirming our dates very soon, but if you could find enough
members (at least 12) who wanted to do this we could arrange your own
exclusive day.
We would have to restrict entry to rear wheel drive cars only, although I
know you can disable the front drive system in some Skylines.
Information about the courses can be found here:
http://www.driftacademy.co.uk/courses.html
http://www.driftacademy.co.uk/owncarterms.html
We charge £199 per person for a full day course if using your own car. If
some wanted to learn in our MX-5s it would be £299.
The best venue for us at the moment is Silverstone, so I would suggest
there. It's a fairly central location too.
April onwards is no problem. I have some provisional dates in April and
May
I can give you if you want to choose one:
April: 4/5/19/24
May: 9/15/23/24
These are subject to confirmation but if you want to pick a couple
which
look good to you I can confirm them in about a week from now.
I originally intended to make this a Skyline event but due to the issues with HiCAS I have not been able to fill the required places. If you are interested please add your name to this thread, when I have enough names I will look at arranging a date, at present I have approximately 6 spare places to finish off arranging the date and discount but if there is enough interest I will allow up to 10 more people,
Thanks,
Jase E

Monday 24th April or Tuesday 9th May I was personally thinking as Japfest is on the 20th May. But depends how people are fixed here and on the GTR Register. Please express views on these dates, should help people arrange money etc. ready for the time,
Regards,
Jase E
Hi Guys:wave:
I've now reserved May 9th as an exclusive GTR Register/SXOC Drift Academy day.
You can book your place by following the link from this page:
http://www.driftacademy.co.uk/groups.html
We can discuss the format of the day beforehand if you want something different to our usual Level 1 course (aimed at novices). For instance, we could run beginners and intermediate groups if we got the right mix of skill levels on the day.
Any suggestions welcome!
We may also have a couple of D1 spec S14s available for free passenger rides on the day;)
Thanks
John

 sounds like a plan Jase, I'd prefer the 9th May, gives me time to get the new bits attached to the motor ;)
Definitely interested but need to check on the 9th.

Right as John will confirm we need a few people at least to start paying, if there is not enough paid up 6 weeks before the date then the day will be turned into a general drift day as apposed to our own private day!

Bttt
have we reached the target yet Jase??
Nowhere near I'm afraid. I'll have to open it up to others for bookings as we only have 2 firm bookings as of today.

Sorry havent been at work John (I presume that I have an email) but you have answered my question (only 2 from the GTR Register!!) so I am so sorry to have wasted your time in assisting me with this (lesson learned)
Regards,
Jase E
Anyone else on here going to sign up for this or is it a wasted effort for John and Jase??
I believe the 6 weeks before is up next Tuesday so come on, I was going to pay this week but with a poor turnout i'm now in 2 minds!
John what happens if you cant get the numbers needed??
It's not a big problem, it's just that it wouldn't be an exclusive event for you all.
Because we have enough space at Silverstone to run several groups at a time, even if there aren't enough of you to make it an exclusive SXOC/GTR day, you could still be in your own group(s) with your own instructor(s), so it would be semi-exclusive ;)
The thing is, venues like Silverstone need to be paid up front a long time ahead to secure the date so I really need you guys to pay up front too otherwise I risk losing a lot of money or cancelling days, neither of which I want to do.
Hope that all makes sense to everyone and I look forward to meeting you in April if you can make it.
Thanks
John

I'm up for May the 9th. I'll book it up next week after payday.
I can't make the 9th as I'm off to France, but if we pick another day in May I'm definitely up for it. Especially as I've now got 4 spare wheels with crap tyres on them :D
all paid up see you there chaps
I havnt been drifting for about a year so was wondering if this sort of thing is for me.
Is it a day of sitting around in a car listening to some guy teaching you how to drift or can we just go at it on our own if we wish?
also does anyone have a layout of the type of track and course? maybe a quick drawing of one from a multimap picture? :D

Hi guys im up for this. However never having sniffed at a drift before im wondering if you'll all be way ahead of me!
What are people doing in terms of cars? using your own or their MX-5s? what do you think a drift virgin like myself should go for? I Dont know if my S14 would be too much of a handful - but then again i dont want to waste the day learning to drift in something ill never drift in again!!
Any thoughts?

I know that myself and Shaky have never done anything along these lines I especially am an absolute novice, same as the ones on the GTR Register as far as I know, everyone so far has booked using there own cars, I am using mine as the purpose of if anything goes t*ts on the road I at least have the chance of correcting it,
Regards,
Jase E
Don't worry if you've never done it before. That's what we're here for!
There's always a mix of abilities on these days but we cater for that with several different layouts and exercises throughout the day.
Cool sounds good. Think I'll use my car for the same reason Jase.
Cheers all. Funds permitting ill be booking up soon

oh the joy's of looking through old post & finding thing's you didn't even know you were looking for... :wack:
i'm a compete novice when it come's to drifting but as it's one of the main reason's i brought the car it's about time i pulled my finger out & did some thing usefull,i'm def interested (going to cash point in a min to check ballance:D ) are spectator's allowed & is there a charge for them sitting & watching?
edit; just spoke to a lad from work who's also very interested in coming along but he own's a uk spec mx5 without a lsd so my questions are 1-would you guy's mind a super :ghey: non sx type car joining us and 2-would he be ok on the day with out a lsd?
We don't mind a non SX car coming along but without a LSD he will find it difficult and frustrating, so he may be better off using our cars.
Spectators are welcome and there's no charge.
Hope to see you there!
