I am back at work tomorrow. i have been roped into teaching part of the new citizenship syllabus that the government has brought in. I fecking hate it. I am qualified to teach ict and science but somehow i get lumbered with the topics related to human rights and law.
Hmmm i guess some of you know why I was targetted for this module in the syllabus. Shoudl be called citizen****.
Anyway I have some questions which have cropped up as part of my researching some of the stuff I am supposed to teach.
Here goes. Answers appreciated.
What out of the following is criminal.
shoplifting - yes
breaking into cars - yes
picking a fight - no
speeding - ??? suppose not. It is a summary offence. what is the difference between summary and criminal.
driving under the influence - yes
solvent abuse - ????? dunno. is it illegal to sniff glue?
doing a paper round at age 11???
shouting racist abuse????
being sold alcohol in a pub under 16
This looks like it could be hard work. What a load of bollox.

apparently its not illigal to be racist, only to discriminate on the grounds of race. But i guess if you are shouting it in the street its a different matter. Some bloke told me this in work. Not sure if its true, havent given it much thought though. And i think if the pub serves food or something you can buy booze at 14. Again, i might have dreamt it.
So if your kids get it right, they out thought a fairly well educated 25 y/o :) Give them a gold star. Or pick a fight with them since it isnt illegal :D
there is a difference between criminal and illeagal, speeding is illeagal not criminal, shopliftinjg is both, breaking into cars is prob just criminal, picking a fight is prob the same as inciting trouble or the like and therefore is prob criminal, driving under the influence is prob criminal, solvent abuse........ ?????? i know its illeagal to sell to under age kids does this mean its illeagal for them to use/abuse it?????? paper round???????? prob some law against under age kids doing it, shouting racist abuse........... depends what colour you are really, booze.. illeagal to be sold it but is it illeagal for them to drink it???????????????.
Solvent abuse - Don't think it;s illegal, though you could be arrested if the police think your a danger to yourself or others ( like when your drunk )
Shouting Racial abuse - pretty certain it's illegal. Could be under Incitement to Racial Hatred or just Breach of the Peace
I would've thought Picking a Fight would be illegal - Common Assault or Breach of the Peace.
Being Sold Alcohol under age is also illegal, though I think it's the landlord who is breaking the law & not the under ager.
Breaking into Cars - Someone was had up in Banbury the other month for "Interfering with a Car". Sounds more pervy than illegal !!

Breaking into cars is ok if it's your own car ;)

Racial abuse - a very difficult one. Incitement to riot, hatred, yes. However, when caught, I would imagine that the offender could claim freedom of speech??? Anyway, I think all active racists should be branded. No, I don't mean like Heinz, I mean like cattle...
Alcohol - both. Illegal to try and buy, illegal to seel and illegal to buy for someone underage I do so believe.

I don't htink its illegal but it is illegal in some way for a shop to sell solvents to someone they think might abuse it e.g. spotty kids (abuse givesd you spots) / regular buyers also they must train staff to look for these features...
Illegal to employ an 11 yr old for more than X hours a week, in bad / dangerous conditions etc... (can't remember how many hours)
Illegal to sell alcohol to a child, but a 16 yr old can be sold alcohol to drink with a meal (maybe only with parents)
Shouting racist abuse almost certainly "inciting violence"?
