So I got rid of my ****ty Belmont and bought myself a '91 Cavalier SRi (8valve) cos the 200 is still off the road. It seemed to work well last night - had a bit of a boot around, no smoke or anything.
But this morning, I pulled out of a junction, put my foot down and bang, it cut out????
The engine warning light came on and I can't get it stared again, although it turns over freely, and the cambelt is intact.
It sometimes fires and runs lumpy for a few seconds.

Does anyone know what is wrong with it, or can you point me in the direction of someone that will?

The last thing I want to do is be spending money on it, as i'm trying to get the 2***** sorted :(

Cheers,

Mike.....

If you look on the rear bonnet, you'll see the problem...

It has a Vauxhall badge on it :D

Sorry about that, couldn't resist!

What sort of 'bang'?

Is it getting fuel? Is it getting spark? Does it have compression?

Check the fuel pump relay, common fault on the Cavalier SRI. Swap it out and see if it runs on the new one.

Try the EGR valve, only costs a few quid to replace and this happened twice on my mates Cavalier 1.6 single point injection and caused the exact same probs.

http://www.cavweb.co.uk/

They've got the details of the ECU codes and how to get them displayed on your dash...

.. alternatively I can email them to you.
