Wheres a good place for a budget lid

Danielle needs one for passenger rides so wont get loads of use so no need to spend £££££££££££££

Just a boggo cheap lid that meets all the safety specs

ebay? There's seems to be quite a few ebay stores in the bike section with reasonably priced lids. Don't know much about the safety standards though, or brands, so can't tell what's a deal and what isn't...

If it's for Danielle, just cut a football in half and stick it on! :p

In seriousness, eBay - Mart got a new Bieffe (good make i'm told) lid very cheap.

SteA's selling one (thats too small for my 57cm head) drop him a PM, its a £100 brand new one for half price ish.

any motorbike helmet is fine for trackdays - loads of them about.

Unless it's just for the show of it :wack: , go to your local bike shop and try a few on.

The value of the helmet to you will not go up simply based on price. It is far more important that you have a good fit.

Each manufacturer makes them a different shape and everyone has a different shaped head.

My missus gets a good fit from a shoei but I couldn't wear one for two minutes without getting a screaming headache. AGV and Arai work for me.

Put the lid on and do up the buckle. It should be 'snug' all the way round but not feel tight anywhere, especially the forehead or cheeks. If it doesn't feel nice after about a minute, it's not right.

Now, holding your head still, try to turn the lid around so you can't see out of the gap and try to tip it up and down. It should tip up and down but not easily. Again, if you can turn it round or easily up and down, it is not right.

As far as price is concerned, they vary massively. I buy a new one about every 3 years (provided I don't damage it) and pay in the region of 500 quid but I do a lot of dangerous miles. :wack:

You can get a fair one for 50-100 quid but ALWAYS buy new. A lid dropped from waist height will not work properly when you need it to.

Oh, also, Italians make good quality lids (unlike their cars :whip: ).

I guess my only qualifications for saying this are having ridden bikes for 28years and covered something like 325,000 miles, some of it on a track. That's quite a few lids.

If its was for biking then i would get her a top notch one as its very important but as this will only be used for the odd trackday its more for the fact that you have to wear one (i hate wearing a lid in the 200 being 6'3")

Buying a helmet from Ebay!!!???

Bad man Mark, bad man :whip: It could be any old junk. Seconds, dropped, dodgy batch etc. Fook that

Demon Tweeks sell them on a free collect and redeliver basis if its the wrong size. :)

Mark

Theres no way in the world i would give any money to Demon Theives

Dont see much point in wearing a lid for trackdays, whats going to happen that couldnt happen on the road, in fact i consider trackdays safer as there are no trees or lamp posts and everyone is going the same way

No one else will do a free collection and send out

Demon get a lot of shit but to be honest they are the daddies. Theyre service is superb, theyre after sales is excellent, their stock inventry is awe inspiring and they have a mind bogglingly good stock/order/payment system :notworthy

They are as pricey as hell but then look at their stock and systems, it has to be paid for somehow :)

Nismo, I was thankful for one when I span off at Haynes and that was only in 2nd! As I hit the grass, my (well, my brother's) lid smacked the side above the window rather hard.

Bren, shame some of the phone monkeys aren't as clued up as most of them seem to be. You do pay a bit more with them but they're pretty good IMO.

I deal with one guy there and hes as good as gold. He has to be the best supplier bloke we have, hes a diamond.

I wish I could get staff like him

Maybe the rest are monkeys, I deal with one bloke the majority of the time :)

Can't see how you're more or less likely to bang your head when falling off a bike than putting a car sideways into a crash barrier

Take a look at SM's video

Its a Sparco SPA358S open faced in white and its a small :) £40:

"Carefully measure around your head, above the ears. Take the measurement, in inches or centimetres, referring to the chart for correct hat/helmet size. Do not guess your size as a helmet must fit snugly and securely before engaging in any activity."

I suspect SM would not have been nailing it through standing water on the M25. I wouldn't have
