View Full Version : Someone fix my car pleeeeease!

In relation to this thread (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=191384), I will pay petrol money to whoever is available to come to Neath and have a look/sort out the problem with my car. Phill has already taken a look, suggested a couple of things which I have done, but didn't fix the problem. It's SORN, has no insurance and MOT so can't really be taken for a spin, and that's why I need someone to come over and have a look. The car starts (once I connect the jump leads!), and you can tell there's a problem straight away as the car doesn't idle properly. Try revving it in neutral (no I don't do it much! - only for diagnosis) and it will only get to about 5k/5.5krpm). I'm not living in Neath but it's only a 20 minute drive for me to get there and I can travel down there at most times so if you have a time in mind I'm pretty sure I can be there.
I'll give it a couple of weeks or so and if the car can't be sorted then it's going into the breaker's section unfortunately.

dont break it mate just sell it. I would come and help but am about 4 hours away and about £70 in petrol. what exhaust has it got on it? and good you take any pics of the engine bay and e mail them to see if it anything ovyes.

He is tom,but the cars not,only in neath though!i'd pop round if a few of us are going,communal head-scratching sounds good to me :thumbs:

Whoever wants to have a look can pop over - just let me know beforehand. The front end of the car is in the garage at the moment though, so it's looking a bit bare!

Don't really want too many people going at one time tho - 'cos I can imagine it being something really simple like I've left something unplugged and feeling like a right tit in front of everyone when they find out :D

Ok Guys so here is the checked list so far :)

I'm not sure, but will you be bringing your 200's? Reason I ask is because if you do maybe we could swap bits over that you think might be of a problem. I know that it has been suggested the ignition amplifier might be knackered and that's an easy enough swap so anyone who's willing to take a bit off their car to test on mine I'd really appreciate it. I've got a socket/spanner set in the garage that I could use.

That's the thing - all the problems seem to point to simple overfueling, but most of the common bits that cause overfueling have been replaced.
As mentioned, someone said to replace the ignition amplifier, but surely if that was knackered it would cause underfuelling, as would a) injectors, and b) coil pack leads. It really doesn't make sense to me. I haven't performed a leak test while all the boost hoses are in place on the car - they were all taken off. I'm not entirely sure how to go about pressure testing the system while all the bits are in place.

Lambda sensor :confused: :thumbs:Fuel filter has been changed on last service, but that was a while ago - the car started playing up not long after its last service, so the fuel filter wouldn't have had that much use. Lambda sensor has not been checked, although running without it seems to make a difference (ie. not faulty?).
Sorry, do you mean if you unplug the labda it runs ok (well, better) ??

I haven't disconnected it since, as I thought it can't be the problem because it was one of the first things I checked.

Since a couple of you have offered to come round (and I am grateful), and any of you know about motorbikes, if anyone can give me any pointers on how to remove the engine from my bike I'd be grateful (there's a mince pie left over from Christmas for the lucky volunteer!).
I need to take it over to Bristol soon to get the bore relined and ended up with a black eye, two cut fingers and half a nail left when I tried to take it out yesterday :(

And it's Meredith I was thinking of taking it to, unless Fowlers are more reputable (I haven't got a clue as I've not been in the bike game long!). D'oh :annoyed: just remembered the bike engine :whip:I didn't want to mention it because you said earlier in the thread that it would be better to ask one of the Hope's :o
If you're popping over to take the 200 back to Merthyr (next week or whenever), if I haven't got it sorted by then I'll show you what I mean. I've basically undone nearly all of the bolts that appear to be holding the engine in, but one bolt that goes through the rear suspension arm, frame, and engine is a bugger to get out. I also don't know how to remove the throttle cable and chain off the front sproket :o
Should be simple enough, but I'm only a beginner!
