ello!

I need to get over my Gremlin. Does anyone know of any trackdays which would be suitable for me. I'd consider Elvington, but it's 150 miles away from me. However it's also relatively safe because it's an airfield.

I'd like to do the Donnington date at Easter and do a Euro Trip to Spa and the Nurburgring. I'd need to do some more track days before then :)

Any recommendations?

that is something that would definetly appeal to me actually, being a newbie. i can just imagine going brands hatch with 25 other sxoc'ers frantically trying to avoid me:D

Have emailed Bedford Autodrome today for dates this year - will let everyone know about them when I get a reply.

Your car will only go as fast as you push it. If you drive within your limits (which should increase throughout the day;) ) Then you will be fine regardless of the track you are driving. When you push yourself or your car beyond the limits then you will have problems.:)

I'd like to see the Stevenage massive going to Bedford in March time, a good starter for these guys, I'd like to go there too, and of course any other SXOCers are welcome :)

Driving within your limits is best kept to the road.

Airfields are fun  Drive way beyond your abilities and enjoy it.

 I'm keen to do a track day some time this year.. I *used* to be quite a good driver, but since having my son I've turned into an old man.

I think I'd have to invest in a FMIC before a trackday though, all this talk of EGT scares me to death..

Best get the suspension and brakes uprated too, just in case the standard ones get a bit warm, balls.

I'm trying to think if anyone from here running a standard intercooler has done the car any harm on a trackday yet. Can't think of one, but it might have happened.
Provided the car is in fundamentally good nick, radiator not furred up, ignition timing correct, wing mount not leaking, turbo feed pipes in good health etc it'll be fine.

At Elvington for example, you'll never get above 100mph, and not be on full throttle for more than about 10seconds at a time. Less, if you're pottering round, which you won't :)

However, you do need good quality front pads (favourites are Ferodo DS2500) , and plenty of meat left on the rears.

 I'm tempted by the 315mm M5 front setup that's going on, and I'm running Eibach springs and good standard shocks (and strut brace). Seems to hold the road OK, but then, even if it doesn't at least I know the limit and can learn to drive it better.

I worry about EGT's cos my engine has done 107k and runs on LPG alll day long, so I'd rather do everything possibel to avoid cooking important whizzy bits.

I was going to go with the Project Mu pads when my wooden block wear out.

150miles is nothing, its only double what I'll be doing, and its my most local place. OK so its a tank of fuel, but on the costs of the day its average.
Theres no where else safer - I'm also getting over my Gremlin - and theres 17!!! SXOCers already - thats a party - almost out own trackday.

Come on - it will be fun :D

I'm sorely (sp) tempted. How many sets of tyres am I likely to kill. I only have one spare legal set.

SM

You should be fine if you take 1 set of part-worns, last Feb I killed 8 tyres that were all illegal and finished slick, so if they start with 30% tread you'll easily do it.

I dont think anybody did as much wear as me .... or as many laps ..... nothing changes then

I may well come along to this as well, I've only done nurburg and will be needing to get used to my new suspension etc before my next trip, will need confirmed dates/cost etc though first

Bedford = Anal noise limits, never mind a bung and decat silencer you'll need your cat !!!!

Pity as it looks fantastic, best of an airfield and best of a racetrack in one !!

I've got an apex twin box, a decat silencer and a bung, it's pretty quiet  perhaps i should get it tested. I understand it's also quite pricey as well?

Yakkos was getting them to send out their noise testing gear to him, now I think he's planning a trip up there for a test

We should know more after that :)

They do 1/2 days.

Thats the preference of the Stevenage bunch

1/2 days there are not too pricey :) plus you get 3 hours open pit IIRC

We'll be looking for a March date, for prep reasons

March - Bedford
April - Brands
May - Japfest

Decat silencers are a must, although I remember looking at their rules and thinking I'd pass

TBH I don't think Noobs need a lot of run off they just think they do :)

I think its the drive-by regs that 200SX's struggle with.

My house mate goes to Bedford a lot. He says it is the drive-by regs they fail on. What they do is ease off at the three testing zones as they are clearly marked. He says it doesn't ruin the day. The kit car they use passes the static test.

The only time I've heard my car at high revs was at thor, no CAT and it really wasn't *that* loud. I think it was no louder than a nur spec at 3k.
