Still haven't got round to doing my stereo fitment yet. Probably be next month now. I have decided to go for coaxials in the rear with 1 or 2 subs and fit the lot in the parcel shelf. I am going to bin the orignal speakers since they are located in a crap position and are rubbish anyway.
So what do I go for.
1. MDF baord and adapt the rear parcel shelf to take the lot.
2. Make a cabinet wide eough to fit all the stereo stuff in and fit it to the rear seats and shorten the parcel shelf relocating the hinges.
3. Or put two subs in the rear corners of the boot near the jack and in the same place pon the other side.
i don't want to compromise the boot space too much.
What do you lot reckon and what have you done?
Cheers

Anyone got any pics of their installs?

Ive just popped outside to take a couple of piccys.
Ive got 5 1/4 co-ax's in the standard spaces in the rear and a sub box (1ftx2ftx1ft) to the side of the boot with 2 10" subs in, one in the front, one in the side.

they look nice. what are they? Mys tereo centre reckoned I would get better rear fill and sound if I out the coaxials in the parcel shelf.
What do you reckon?
Have you heard any set ups like the one I am thinking about. If so how did they compare to yours. the only problem with having them in the origianl postion is that the sounds hits the rear windows and frame within inches. i though puting the coaxials in the parc el shelf would improvethis. notice yours are tilted. Are the originals like this?
cheers for that
Turbo pete.
Going on hols now so probably chat more in 1 week.

They are Infinity rears and ancient pioneer subs that recently got knackered by a low flying oil cooler rad.:(
Rear speakers are only to fill in the sound a bit. The main sound should be from the fronts. I put mine in the standard positions mainly so that they were stealth, same as the fronts which are under the original grills. Using an MDF baffle improves the sound, giving the speaker a nice solid mounting with minimum resonance, unlike metal.
Thay sound fine but like I say, most of my sound comes from the front.
I wouldnt chuck all the speakers, especially the subs in the shelf firstly because of the weight will be too much for it and secondly because the sound from free air subs can be a bit iffy sometimes, especially if the baffle they are mounted on isnt absolutely solid. It can give you a nice sound at moderate levels but if you start caning them they can sound a bit ragged.
The other advantage of fitting the mids in the side pods is that the sound isnt distorted by the air movement caused by the subs.
