do you need a reverse gear?
we're all going down from octaneboost.co.uk :)
You think it will be grippy :wack:
Too Far for me unless its almost 100% going to be dry.
I will go as long as you dont need to use reverse at any point, mines broke.
ie if i drive up to the line ok and is there plenty of space in the car park, no difficult manouvers etc

Just don't go over the start line and get them asking you to back up a bit!

okey doke will have to be careful to keep eye on directions man
About 110 miles or 30 quid return in petrol
can i come with you ian if i split the costs with you? 110 miles in my cars more like £50!
Aye sure
rob can go in the back if he wants to go :wack:
Aye sure
rob can go in the back if he wants to go :wack:
im sure we can twist his arm, ill even let him go in the front, as im only 4ft6!
Do we need to buy tickets in advance?
Also do you get time to operate your launch control and build up boost?
adey1984
23-12-2005, 22:16
if neones going from the bristol area, let me know and we could meet up in gloucester, ive been more times than i can count now. guna aim to beat my personal best in any vehicle. shouldnt be to hard in this car with new engine droped in ;)
Do we need to buy tickets in advance?
No. Just turn up and tell the people on the gate that you want to run. They'll take your cash then you sign on near the startline. The queues can get long so get there early if you want to beat them :)

ill be there me and mates always go to this to celebrate my birthday (hint hint) see u lot there
I'm tempted...
I've not been before, but I'd like to find out what 1/4 mile time I can do.
i think i will come, dont know what engine will be in the car tho, feel like killing another gearbox :)
i want to properly kill my box too before i fit an old second hand one and then lower the boost to ensure it doesnt go as im buying a house and cant afford things after that lol :(
Convoy no probs adey
I went on the 1st or 2nd meet of 2004. The grip on the RWYB is shite. They didn't prepare the track, and I managed to break traction in 3rd and even fekking 4th gear.
I've got slicks now, but will prob wait till a better event to let rip.
So how does this drag racing work then, I saw it at TOTB but dont know if its the same at the pod with the lights.
You pay 10 quid for 1 run? queue up, roll up to the lights until the blinking white ones go out (indicating your in position). Then you have a couple of seconds to set up lunch control, then fire the clutch any time up to 5? seconds after green
Normal RWYB is £15 for unlimited runs. The white lights are for staging (lining up) then the marshall will start the Christmas tree (now apt) lights. You don't have to launch straight away unless you want to test your reaction times or race the guy in the other lane
cool cool, knowing me i will be nervous so shaking the first couple of times and so will drop the stupid giken clutch straight away and spin till the traction control kicks in at 20mph and sorts me out lol. How long can the queue get in terms of mins? is there a optiflax near by too? I take it its best to run early and late in terms of queue?
The queue is normally 45mins between each run...
Its rather annoying as all you seem to is do there is queue.
On a RWYB event its prob £10 to get in, £15 to race all day, roughly, on a big event like retro cars its £15 for 3 runs.
The queue is normally 45mins between each run...

Prob burn an awful lot of fuel starting it up and switching it off. Whats the earliest you can get in?
Most people push their cars...
They let you in about 9...Racing prob eventually starts about 9:30
Ah yes that would be sensible silly me thinking about the M6 again. Pushing sounds good im getting used to it now as its the only way i can get my car to go backwards, that and parking uphill.
I went on the 1st or 2nd meet of 2004. The grip on the RWYB is shite. They didn't prepare the track, and I managed to break traction in 3rd and even fekking 4th gear.
i know what you mean mate, i went last January and the surface was shite. never had less grip in my car in my life. i was running 17 second passes at about 98mph - how the hell does that work! i was struggling with Saxo VTR's untill i got into 3rd gear.
i couldn't work out why my lanuching was so bad, i went right up to the end of the strip after my 1st run and on the road back down the side of the strip, i stopped and launched, it was gravelly and still i managed to get better traction. :wack:
personally, i wouldn't bother untill it gets a bit warmer otherwise your likely to go home dissapointed.
PMSL...
Yeah I did an outstanding launch in the pits...
I'm sure they aren't really interested in anything other than revenue. If a REALLY powerful car went down the strip in those conditions, it would be dangerous.

how many people are actually coming? if theres enough people i can try organise club parking, it might be too late now tho as alot people decided to just post reasons why they didnt wana go.
I dont think i will be parked much from the sounds of the queues
I might have to come to beat ian :D
I would like to actually do a run this year, as long as it will be dry...
That wont be hard im running on 225s :p

Pretty sure you'll beat that..

What would be the average time for a completely standard S14?
That wont be hard im running on 225s :p
I was only messing, more to do with your gear box. I'm on 255's but they seem to spin up just as much
Looking forward to seeing your car though...
The gear box is working in 1st 2nd and 4th so thats all I need lol. Only worry is rolling past the starting point with no reverse, and prob completely finishing the box off and needed a tow home :D .
You could always put the other box in first. Depends how far to get home i guess...
Nah I dont want to ruin a good 100k mile box lol. Im going to wreck this one and use the other with 1 bar or less till I can get a real box sorted.
im already there me and a few people from streetrace.co.uk and streetwheels.co.uk are going so ill see u there for shure unlees its rainin then theres no point 4 me
last time i ran 13.7
my mods are only (on S14)
full stainless system inc manifold
g-reddy profec 2
cheapo induction kit
apexi dump valve (altho this doesnt help anything)
short shiter
lowered on std rims and cheapo tyres
i am not aware of anything else but it seems a bit quick for whats been done

just a bump as this is next sunday. if anyones wanting to convoy there or hasnt been b4 and just wants to follow some1 else you could meet me and a few mates at this petrol station near oxford
BP Express Shopping Ltd
Woodstock Rd, Oxford, OX2 8AA
i plan to be leaving there at about 7.30 to make sure i get some track action. ive been 2 years previously to the first one of the year and not got 2 race
1st year attended, i had car trouble and they closed signing on 5 min b4 i got there, and last year i was on the way there with my track preped clio turbo on a trailer and we lost it on the m42 , the trailer the clio was on jack-knifed us and we ended up having the motorway closed. still after sorting the police out and the recovery wagons (2 needed) i jumped in a mates car and got there. but it wasnt the same without my car.
this year i am guna get there and im guna drive up that strip giving it all the beans the car has ;) :D
Im going with a few mates.
Traction will be a major problem on the day the surface is bad enough in spring and summer let alone january.
I'll be bringing a video camera and tripod to get some footage. So clean your cars you lazy gits;)
I'll also bring my dads olympus om2 :wack: which takes cracking pics when its set up properly.
any one is welcome to join us we will be leaving from north london:thumbs:
I think its now £20 for unlimited runs.
What would be the average time for a completely standard S14?
14.5 - 15 secs Roughly but dont be disappointed with your time on the day i reckon guys with stage 1 mods will struggle to get lower than a 14.5.

Yeah last time I ran a 14.2 and you ran a flat 14. That was when I was a lot warmer and I did manage to blow my head gasket on the way home. :furious: Hopefully it won't be raining on Sunday.
Good luck people.
Also watch out for our mate in the Celica GT4 CS. He's gonna wack his boost up to a bar for the day and he's got the advantage of 4wd.
ill be in the green s14 with badly fadded paint lol :) (good job i do bodywork 4 a living) . its in the mechanics havin a stage2 clutch fitted ready

If we get rain showers on Sunday, I might not bother going. Not much fun trying to launch a car on a wet drag strip.
im taking my petrol car for some back up fun incase the weather turns to shite.
Do they even let you run on a wet track?
Do they even let you run on a wet track?
Nope. :(
Its a bit shit if you go up and it rains all day. Its also the coldest place in the world. :wack:

good practice tho, for pulling off in crap conditions. if only the car wasnt playing up. started to mis fire on full load between4000-5000 rpm, i think its a coil pack
They spent 4 hours preping the surface and we couldnt run till 1 oclock very annoying, for the amount of money we paid they should have been prepping the surface all night and not starting when we were meant to start. £30 plus £40 petrol :( . My first run I set the TC to dry settings, the wheels span up at the start and I went nowhere, let go of the accelerator and started manually, got 15.8@112mph and still beat the supposed 250bhp corsa that actually got a 21s 1/4  .
Next run i set it to wet and got a 13.4s@112mph, beating a ford focus that got a 17.2s . Last run I set the TC to dry again and got a much worse time of 14.2@112mph, was a little scared as I was against a bright orange burrbling yank thing with massive rear wheels but was all show and no go with a 16s.
Conclusion, santa pod is actually wet when itsw dry, TC wet is much faster. Considering I got 3 consistent 13.8@112 at bruntingthorpe when it was actually really wet and a bit snowy. Gear box just about managed to hold together but at one point leading to the second run it got stuck in 1st gear but dipping the clutch a couple of times and waggling it loosened it.
Wanted - ZX gearbox and slicks now :D

traction control seems to be the daddy then, i could only manage 14.4 at 102 mph, coulnt get off the line too well and when i was booting it it kept missfiring. got my other set of coil packs out to day, i hope its them thats playing up
TC is a god-sent item, SXs are not the most grippy of cars at the best of times without it its near impossible. Also 5% slip may be good on a dry track with fast corners, but on a drag slip its only 0% thats any good. But unlike most traction control units on production cars, the racelogic unit actually makes your car faster. I got 13.8 on a wet airfield, without it I would have been in the 16s as its very hard to get any grip with a fair bit of power. I think its proven without doubt that TC is good, all those "my TC is my right foot" people may indeed avoid accidents but they dont get anywhere fast either lol. It also saved my car on a erm race track, my backend kicked out a bit when playing with a porsche GT3 and in a split second it was sorted far quicker then I could humanly react and It only went to a angle that I could sort out, no following fishtail either. BTW Im not on commision but if racelogic want to send me a free clutch switch thats fine by me ;)
edit - I had a fair bit of misfire when I did the 13.8 at bruntingthorpe I guess with the lack of traction it doesnt effect times to badly, mainly traction is the issue.

one set of deno iridiums for the bin, y is it i only ever have problems driving hard on opticrap? back to bp and tescos i think. i really hope theres no bits of the spark plug left in the chamber.

Im running on optimax and have had no issues, my densos also seem fine after 15K of usage, I had an issue of the boost blowing out the spark in cold weather, but now they are reduced to 0.6mm i have had no issue. A CDI kit is meant to be useful for high boost applications 1.4+.
If you have melted a plug its a good sign that the mapping is off or something else. My power FC reads much higher knock on BP 97 then on optimax 98, esso, texaco and sainsburys 97 also seem better then BP. BP 97 is the only fuel that ive had a knock warning light come up on with a peak reading of 67, still no det heard though, car was originally mapped on texaco and sainsburys 97 mix ( just what i could get hold of). After about 4 Vmax rev limiter runs, using optimax and 2*wynns petrol boost, I obtained knock of 28 :)

spoke to a bloke at apex and he said it could be the timing, mines is set at 17deg so ill turn it back to 15deg for now, took her for a run with some new plugs in and she seems so much smoother, mabey the problems been there for a while
Was very impressed with the times that the S14s were posting, especially as the tractrion was sooooo piss poor. I suppose the -25deg C temperature kinda made up for that
Sure I saw a grey S14 get a 13.7@114mph :notworthy
Only saw two S13s on the strip though: A dark grey facelift and a nicely battered silvery pre-facelift.
i ran a 14.9 , 15.1, 14.8.
Ian t is yours the black 14a with the superleggras? if so i believe i spoke to you very breifly after your first run.
btw your car sounds bloody mental some good times too:nod:
 to all the others that were there
Aye that be me, yep it is a bit loud to say the least lol
i had a gr8 day .. i spake to noz at the end of the day ..... and ian_t at the beggin of the day and some1 else at the beggin in an s13 too.

i only got 14 secs this time .... but atleast i beat the ford popular drag car :) ... ive nackered my new clutch too already .... slippin now lol .. ahh well
I saw Nismoid Drifters S14 waiting to run and I also saw a bluey purple S14 with a big intercooler and another burgandy S14 with big white rims. Big S14 presence in the quadmire!!
I was in my red supra.
