There is....

The 1.6 are 86 - 90, and were official Mazda cars, with the squared body shape (BF as it's known). The very last ones, and the one you have seen advertised have a TWR bodykit and better interior, but no more power.

1.6 is 148BHP, and the original road test figures are 0 - 60 in 7.1, not bad for a 1.6! Most of them have been thrashed, but you can get cheap early ones for £250 upwards, and pay up to £2K for a well looked after minter. They are good little motors 200BHP is easy, but the gearbox is weak and they have no LSDs. They have a lot less top end speed than a 200SX though. In the UK they were badged as Turbo 4WD, and had Sport and Lux models, Sport has no electrical goodies. Overseas they had other models, usually badged as GTX.

The 1.8 was introduced in 1990, and was never imported to the UK, the have the later BG body shape. There were GTX versions with 164BHP, LSD etc. These were made 1990 to 94, they are a good car, but if anything are a bit slower and more refined than the early cars. they have centre and rear viscous LSDs, and handle well once lowered off the factory stilts ;)

I had a GTX, then sold it and bought my GTR, which is pictured below. This is one of 2500 produced between 91 and 93, and is radically different to the GTX. There are now around 20 GTRs in this country, and they are a great car. Basically, you get a full on rally car, with the standard exhaust and filter restricting it to about 185BHP. Swap these for a decent setup, and you get 250+. The factory turbo is good for 400BHP, the engine has squeeze cast pistons, gearbos is strengthened, high ratio steering rack, poly bushes in the suspension, all standard kit and the list goes on.

These cars a a very different type of car to a 200SX in a lot of ways, and it depends whether thats what you're looking for. My car will be at Trax, on the 200+ club stand. Anything you want to know, feel free to ask / mail me. The UK owners club is way smaller than this one though!

Cheers

I was asking about these a little while ago as my friend has one and can't get any info on 'em.He has upped the boost to 10-11psi (from 7/8),has a free flow air filter and a stainless 'zorst. Its one of the early 1600cc 16v models ('e' reg.) but stays with me to 100mph no probs. The gearbox on it is really short tho',100 mph equates to roughly 5000rpm or there abouts but boy does it get there fast!!:D:D:D:D:Dcheap scooby, but in a good way:)get one,go on,they're a right laugh.By the way,hi Kes,didn't we meet at the Run what ya brung a while ago at Santa pod and it p*ssed down so we went to Maccy D's??If not then i may sound sound like a propa twat and ignore me:D

Jeez, yeah, i remember now, the one in Feb / March that got rained off, you were there with Ash. His cars pretty good for the money he paid, and I agree, they are a big laugh to drive, but short geared.

Good to see your 200 is going strong, are you lot heading to Trax?
