... when the b@stards cover our roads in loose chippings

Parked the 200 at my dads for a couple of days to make his house look lived in as he's on holiday. Go round today with a view to going for a blast and there's fookin chipping everywhere. Thought about driving it out VERY slowly then a child in a Nova drove past at about 1000mph, spraying gravel everywhere and I thought no way.

Why do councils persist in using this dangerous ineffective crap, apart from the fact it's cheap?

Is this loose gravel? If so ... time to crack out the off-road tires on the Rex! Muhahahhaha... I just bought a WRX. I must say it is sweet.

What adds insult to injury.... this may take some time so bare with me on this...

I work for a major construction supplier.

In April of this year the Govement introduced aggregate levy on the suppliers of raw aggregate of 1.60 per tonne. This was about four times the amount of any price increase the industry have ever tried to apply.
The total bill for the year to the goverment is 2 million pounds more than the company makes in a year. So therefore this leaves no choice but to pass the increase onto our customers.

So this is a levy on the industry but not a headline making stealth tax.

Sooooooo...

The costs get passed on, this increases the price of roads, new houses and a knock on effect to exisiting houses.
Guess who are the biggest buyer of raw aggregate in the country??

Local councils

So local councils are the industries biggest customer and guess what is happening to their budget for next year... Nothing... lucky if they just have to settle for a freeze on spending.
So aggregate has shot up by over 2.00 per ton this year but no new money to pay for it but the goverment are expecting around 160 million from the top five producers of aggregates.

So guess where local councils are going to get the extra cash to pay for that sharp nasty sh!t they spread on the road?

Oh and the goverment can increase the Aggs levy without notice by any amount. Its already four times the rate that it is in europe.

Nice..

Rant over, thanks.
