Just saying hello. My name is Alan and I drive a 1996 S14 240SX. It is maroon has an Injen short ram intake with custom cold air box that I built, advanced timing, Magnaflo muffler, Stillen Camshafts, Weapon R Fuel Pressure Regulator, Venom 370cc Injectors, lowered 2" w/ Intrax springs, and a few other things I cant think of at the moment. I live in Texas where its currently 102 degrees with 85% humidity so you can imagine how well the car runs in the N/a setup. Us Yanks have to deal with N/a 2.4L motors where as everyone else, except the Canucks, gets the 200SX w/ SR20DET motors. I also import Nismo or STi parts to the US and can ship to anywhere in the world.

Aha but your car can run off 91 RON fuel, while the rest of ours have to run off 95 RON or better. Thats why the 240SX ever existed (AFAIK)

We got SR20DET powered 240SXs here making 300bhp on 93-Octane (RON) pump-gas.

Thats impressive, but dont the engines get blown to bits by pimking?

There is more than meets the eye... these motors often are detuned from what they can put out on the 104 RON track gas. Ignition is retarded to prevent pinging (detonation).

Hiya Alan and welcome. Ever considered an SR swap?

It will be done at the end of the year hopefully. Im still trying to work out parts. I will be swapping a S13 Redtop into my S14 to cut down on costs. I will most likely run the T25 but I am gonna try to get a S14 T28. Motor will eventually be upgraded to have the following:

Blitz LM Front Mount Intercooler
Walbro Fuel Pump (255Lph)
Blitz NUR Spec Exhaust
S14 T28 or a custom T3/T4 Hybrid
Blitz Downpipe
HKS EVC IV Boost controller
Blitz Auto Turbo Timer
HKS Intake
Blitz BOV

I think thats about it... apart from a Stage 5 Clutch.
We dont have the luxury of having Turbocharged cars that have parts that are swapable. We do have the Twin Turbo 300Zs, GTOs, Supras but they dont swap over parts other than fuel pumps.

They measure RON in a slightly different way over there. Not sure what the comparison is, but I think 91 US RON is about the same as 95 Euro RON.

They also measure power in a different way, which after the SAE corrections and whatnot can result in a figure that's some 20% larger for the same actual output  Not a problem when comparing against cars measured in the same way, but just remember to shave off a chunk when comparing against our numbers.

When you say an S13 redtop, I take it you mean the CA18 engine? If so, why don't you grab a T3 off a wrecked cossie or something? Loads of people here have an ex-Ford T3.

Oh - and hi Alan :)

Keith, there are 2 varieties of SR20DET - commonly known as red top and black top (because of the cam covers). The red top came in the JDM S13 180sx/silvia (and also the Pulsar GTiR) and the black top came in the S14. The black top engine has the variable valve timing thing (oh yeah, there were also black top engines in the '96 180sx, but these didin't have variable timing. You can tell them apart as the S14 engine has the slope at the back of the cam cover aka 'bent cam').

If you can all fit... and you wash my car daily :D ... If you compair a humid 100 degree day to a chilly rainy day your car will have 5% less power on the 100 degree day and run like crap. The car revs slow and can make any detonation problem get worse.

Oh yeah ... we dont have Ford Cossies. All of our turbo vehicles come with either twin T2s, T25s, or something resembling a T28. It it best to just swap the S14 Turbo over to the CA18DET motor here. Also no, I dont have any of those "thingy"s sorry.

You Brits are welcome to come out to Texas and crash at the ol' Hacienda. We will have to build a pub somewhere so we can all get happily smashed and make a few bucks. Perhaps I should translate that a bit... or try at least. "You mates can come crash at me pad, later we will build ourselves a pub and down a few pints. Perhaps if someone too cheeky comes in we can give him a hint of irish. Till then we can make a few quid." Also... im not understanding this whole Petrol thing... Petrol is English English for gas right? Gas is the liquid you poor into the car to make it run. If so ... we have 93 Octane Gas and it sells for $1.45 a gallon.
