Guess what?

I just collected my new car....

Its fab, its eighties, its square and has a stick-on homologation type bodykit, strange engine capacity, dog-leg gearbox,

Can you guess what it is yet?

Can yer?

1986 Mercedes 190e 2.3-16v Cosworth!

Back in time with check cloth half leather, crap headlights, jerky Bosch Jetronic Fuel injection hurrah!

Love it to bits, after years of modern cars, its nice to feel bolted to something again!

My mate following me back in the S14a reckoned she's pretty quick too - I couldn't tell as its pretty serene even at full chat.

Bizarrely, has absolutely no body-roll whatsoever, which is quite disconcerting at first....

Pics to follow!

:D

Sounds cool. Looking forward to some pics.

Not too familiar with this model so can you give us some stats?

And details of any future plans? :D

It will be staying absolutely standard mate - I bought the most expensive, lowest mileage one I could find/be arsed to get to.... and it is friggin mint. Drives like new.

I only bought it to transport my little girl around in at the weekends *ahem* really I did!

Spec:

2299cc in-line 4
185 bhp @ 6,800rpm
173 lb-ft @ 4,500rpm
1260kgs
0-60 7.5secs
140mph V-Max

Know this is a bit of a girly question....ahem :o ....but what colour is it? Please tell us it's black, those old (ish) mercs look the dogs in black with a descrete body kit.

Just don't black out the windows and change all the silver bits to gold - unless you really do want the ultimate pimpmobile ;) :D

I must be a mind reader :D

At least you will always have the option if you do decide upon a career change. Assuming your not already a pimp ;) :D

Have fun driving it mate, it sounds tops :)

erm, it set me back the small matter of......

£5795.

1986, FFSH, 82K, Mint,

The only thing important with these cars is the four things above.

I believe there were only 3000 or so imported to the UK between 86 & 92 (production run for the 2.3 and later 2.5

Sounds like a lot, but as you're likely to be able to double that mileage before anything rattles, let alone falls off, it really sounds pretty good :)

Nice to know there are people out there not totally obsessed with age and mileage, as most of the general public seem to think that as long as it's under 3 years old and done less than 20k nothing can possibly go wrong

IMHO condition and build quality are ultimately more important, but I guess that's why there are still plenty of cherished S13's kicking about :)

IT WAS A LOT!

The next most expensive one on Autotrader was half the frigging price - but had done twice the miles.

I've learnt the hard way with cheap performance cars, and thats half the reason I got the most expensive one available.

The Merc Cosworth is now in the league of buying purely on mileage, history, and condition.

I spent two weeks verifying every single service its ever had (Merc dealers seem to keep records of everything ever done), and then contacted the two previous owners - both of them Doctors!

Wow Dunk, that's a lot of research, but hopefully it'll pay off dividends for you in the future. :)
