Hi Gary, Been thinking about our Turbo discussions again :p More because when giving it a bit of a tickle off a roundabout I saw a puff of smoke  Anyway, you suggested the TD06 kit which looks good but at £2200 it is a bit steep. Would I get a similar effect from fitting a GT2871R incl all bits (£1030, tubular manifold (£150) and elbow (£75) with a lower cost of about £1255 + gaskets etc?

Cheers for the advice

hi mate

yes you would get a similar effect but wouldnt be as nice

remember the expensive kits comes with external wastegate for better boost and a manifold that has braces so doesnt give any probs

its always the same quality costs!!!

Thats pretty much what I thought but I needed push in the right direction. I did look on the Greddy website and the wastegate is nearly $1000 on its own, plus the ball ache of having a lower quality manifold crack every fortnight.

Cheers for your help

Errr no. Not a butterfly I've ever heard anyway

You could build up something along similar lines to the TD06-20G kit for less money. Eg a top mount T3 manifold (cast or tubular available from various sources), Tial wastegate, and T3/04E. But then you'll need some custom bits to finish it off. The Greddy stuff is nice in that everything you need is included down to heatshielding, hose joiners and clips and brackets to support the weight of turbo and wastegate.

Thanks for that Papa. I had a discussion with Gary not long back about where to go next and it seemed a good idea to try something else from the standard GT28RS etc route for stage 3. I do have a spare engine so if it goes wrong not all is lost :wack:

We planned to run a larger than required turbo to see what the effects were and Gary suggested the TD06 because, as you say, it is an excellent kit and the spool up seemed good/responsive.

From memory I would run the larger turbo to produce the same effect as the GT28RS at 1.3/1.4bar, but with all this volumetrics business it would run less boost to achieve the same power and potentialy put less stress on the engine.

What do you think?.....

Bigger turbo will potentially get you more power at less boost. Lower exhaust manifold pressure and all that etc etc. With some decent cams fitted power should really rise. Eg I think mine had something like 360 bhp at 1 bar. Something like a TD06-20G or the sort of T3/04's I'm thinking of are not going to be excessively laggy. I wouldn't go to the extremes though like fitting a T78 or similar on a stock engine, that would be silly.

LOL

Papa, so if I went for the larger turbo as suggested, would a set of these Poncam thingys (technical I know :wack: ) be a wise choice?

Cheers for your advice

Yeah they should work well, quite a few people running Tomei 256's. Should get you more torque from 4k rpm upwards.

I don't know what you're running in the way of ECU, but I'm not sure using cams with say a stock ECU and S-AFC would work well. It might be do-able but one guy I was speaking to recently seemed to be having issues with idle and low load performance, running just an S-AFC and stock ECU, after fitting HKS Step 1 cams. APT can probably advise better on this than I can

Still on the standard ECU with the SAFC for fuel. Speaking to Gary he said to get everything ready eg turbo, injectors etc before fitting the PowerFC to save on the mapping costs.

Cheers
