Exhaust's started blowing and I'm contemplating a mongoose system.
Anyone who's got one, did it go on easy enough? any problems/things to look out for??

Sadly, given that I've got phuck all money I might have to go with a std CAT back system from motosave (£135.oo inc vat/fitting).

Has anyone ever repaired a hole in an exhaust? if so, how long did it last (till 2 paydays away I hope) and what did you use?

cheers fellas

The exhaust is more fiddly to fit if anything, especially if you have to get under the car. The biggest problem can be cracking the nuts off round the turbo, as they may need heating up a bit before they will budge.

If you get it fitted though, its not that expensive, I got a mongoose fitted on My old Escort RST for £20, and got the mongoose for the Nissan fitted for £25 - and that was from Demon Tweeks!!!!

Hope it helps.....

Where's the hole and how big?
If it's on a easy to get to area (not a joint between pipe and box) then the exhaust bandage usually lasts a couple of months. If it's on a joint then it's more tricky depending on how big the hole is you could try the putty stuff.
Mongoose wise they are excellent but if it's anything like the S14 then I'd get it fitted as it saves all the messing with seized bolts etc for not much money. Also if anything comes loose you can take it back and get it sorted FOC.

Gun gum does tend to blow out after a bot if you give it a lot of welly.
I patched my old Capri up with a bean can and a couple of clamps for about 7 weeks at one time tho and it held

Turns out the crack is at the pipe/flange joint on the CAT end of the downpipe.
Tried that putty stuff (waste of time), it worked for about 5 minutes then blew out after I screwed the car all the way up to 120 whilst racing (read: pissing on) an Astra GTE http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif.
Oh well, getting it welded today so hopefully that should hold till I can afford the Mongoose.

Hi,
Met a bloke from Hull when I was at tubetorque getting my exhaust done. He was there because his mongoose didn't fit his S14. There were two problems, firstly the flange which mates with the turbo was wrong (although it seemed like the flange on the turbo was dodgy rather than the exhaust).. but the other thing which was a bit concerning was one of the boxes came really close to the drivehsaft, so much so, that if you fit the exhaust a couple of inches the wrong way, the driveshaft eats a hole in the side of it !
Other than that, it seemed like a pretty well made exhaust to me.

Tweeks just qouted me like an extra £65 to fit a mongoose at the weekend!!! My mate got one fitted for £25 quid aswell Stu. Robbin bastids said it was 2 hours work. Think I'll be bringing it home to do meself. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

2 hours indeed, i reckon i could make the job last 2 hours with 10 ciggy breaks and a run to maccys.
