Although this looks like a picture taken from a Hollywood movie, it is in fact a real photo, taken near the South African coast during a military exercise by the British Navy.

It has been nominated by Geo as "THE photo of the year".


(PS. Dunno if it's a fake or not - it's still being discussed at the moment!)

Looks a bit dodgy that - can't imagine a Great White jumping out of the water that close to a helicopter. Them things are fecking noisy - enough to put you off your dinner I bet!

part of my job includes photo retouching for F1 teams and if you look carefully at the image, you will notice that theres no water on the shark or coming of its dorsal fin - strange considering the size of the shark... jpeg compression helps you to get away with loads of stuff!

IMHO can't tell if it's a fake or not but YES helicopters are darn noisy (worked almost a yea on them) and water on the shark isn't neccesary to be seen as shark skin is very special e.g. a duck/goose which goes under water and comes back up doesnt pull a lot of strains of water. And as the shark is big and a choppers blowing above it's head all water will be gone to the point the picture has been taken.

It doesnt even look like a photo to me, more like an oil painting.

It wasn't the best example of picture - it was of a pretty low quality from where I ripped it out of - if you see that big bridge support leg thing, the colours are extremely pants.

I'd have said taht was fake too, surely the exit angle is far too steep for a creature of that size...
