Rented it today after missing it at the cinema.

WOW!

Absolutely terrific film, so good in fact that I watched it twice today. Might even watch it again tomorrow before it has to go back.

The scenery, the costumes, the action, the effects, all fantastic.

Thers a few bits of the book that they missed out which was a bit annoying but after looking at the extras most of them will be in the extended version which comes out in November.

Love it, love it, love it.

:D:D

I saw it at the movie and I think for most people it's better the short way. It would loose a lot of suspense if they put everything in it, I think the long version is only suitable for fans.

Steve,

How the hell did you manage to miss that in the cinema????
I saw it 3 times and it just gets better as you notice more and more.

Totally agree with you though, fantastic movie.:D

It will be as great as the first Star Wars trilogy in SFX and sheer cult status:)

I missed it because the 3 times I tried to see it the bloody cinemas were fully booked. I was well gutted when I drove to Ipswich the 4th time only to find out that they werent showing it any more. Bugger.

for the true cinematic experience, drink a couple of cans of coke, forget how long the film is, forget everything about it (ie so its like watching it for the first time and you cant miss any of it), sit down, press play and hide the remote so you can't stop the film. then watch it as the feeling of needing to pee builds over the 3 hours...

other than that tis a great film!

when the next episode comes out i'm gonna wait til its on DVD unless they put a recess in the middle of the film!!

Did you know they are releasing another version of this in november? it has 4 disc's and abou 40mins extra added on to the film. So everyone who buy's this DVD will have to pay twice if they want the extra 40mins and all the other goodies that they are keeping quite at the min!!!

Yep, this will be the biggest marketing scam DVD has ever seen, even more of a scam than the Die Hard Trilogy. With that one I think you could buy something like this:

Die Hard 1
Die Hard 1 Special Edition

then

Die Hard 2
Die Hard 2 Special Edition

then

Die Hard 1 & 2 box set
Die Hard 1 & 2 box set special edition

then

Die Hard 3
Die Hard 3 Special Edition

and finally

Die Hard 1, 2 & 3 box set
Die Hard 1, 2 & 3 box set special edition

Robbin b@stards.

I'm waiting till the the end before buying any LOR DVD's.

BTW, Who's read the book??? I reckon if they made the film as the book you be bored out of your mind and thouroughly confused half the time. Its good when its good but dunt half go off on one sometimes.

Yeah, I agree, the book is soooo slow at times. I think if they had done it the same as the book, it would have been about 6hours long!!!

Yeah, I loved the book as a kid, but I read it again just before the film came out and the first one is great, the second one is OK, and the third one just degenerates into cod-mystic nonsense with thee's and thou's and that sort of nonsense.

And apparently, the extra forty minutes in the November DVD isn't boring plot stuff, it's all the battle scenes they had to chop to get a PG certificate :D

I read them too and have to admit on English it's better than in German anyway all those long pages with descriptions you can replace by a simple picture in the movie - so already shorter but a 1:1 convertion of the 'books' would be only for enthusiasts.

No, but I've heard it has an amazing 5.1 soundtrack.

Have the dvd and about to watch it on the surround system:p Saw it at the Odeon Lesceister square when it come out. great on such a big screen. The saw it again at local flick.

Tolkein does change his writing style through the thre books but it's all good stuff for the brain to ponder on.

Try reading the Smillrion, Smillirion or what ever it was called, give up on that three times!

I've got about 50 pages left and its boring the $hit out of me, got to finish it though after reading al that.

If he wrote that for his kids they must be a couple of frikin wackos after having that lot read to them of an evening.

The Hobbit is very good though, not too long and none of the 300 page pondering interludes like in LOTR.
