Why do they think they can ride round a blind bend down a country road at 100's mph thinking there invincible and the bloke (and accompanied girl) won't get the crap scared out of them when the crotch rocket misses the front of your car by inches !!!!

Because its fun.

It also requires alot of will power NOT to ride like that ....... generally I behave, but every now and again, it gets the better of me ..... I'm not proud of it.

but its fun ! .... oh so fun.

If you stay on your lane, even on blind bends, it's FUN: YEAH, REALLY!!, as stated Johnny, but if you begin to "bite" the coming lane (because you drive too fast, for exemple), you are nothing more than a little bag of **** on an engine TOO POWERFUL FOR YOU LITTLE BRAIN.
I enjoy driving my bike, but I HATE those scumbags motocyclist driving like monkeys, frightening other road customers, and risking their passengers' life.
That's it.
Aren't I bad? :D

Yeah thats me .... not through choice though  .. only been riding for about 3 months, never ridden a bike before and jumped straight on to a 955i ........ 99.99% of the time I am good and steady ... but I have cooked it on the odd corner where I have gone in to fast ..... realised I am drifting wide, and instead of keeping looking round the corner and letting the bike lay over more, I have looked to where I am drifting to ........... subsequently .... this is where the bike now starts going.

Generally though, I am a chicken sh1t, follow other cars and overtake only in stationary traffic ... this wll though (I am told) soon change.

What p1sses me off though, is the amount of Scoobies, Evos, Boxters and even a 200sx ... that attempt to race me ??? ....... feck off, I dont want to play ........ yet !

:D

Although having seen the nasty side of motorcycle accidents, its the adrenaline and risk factor that makes biking so much fun. Which is why alot of bikers tend to act a bit crazy, but as long as they keep upright, and dont cause a crash, whats the problem? scaring other road users sounds a bit gay really.. sort of thing old people say when they cant think of anything else to complain about.

Oh indeed ... how many of the little old grannies, blind mothers and the like, that you have overtaken in your beefed up 200sx have you actually talked to after the event to guage there response from a seemingly innocent manouver ? ??

I got roasted at work the other day ... I was following a micra round the back roads on the way to work, keeping my distance, round one bend on to a straight, foot down, over take, thought nothing of it.

Turns out the girl in the micra I work with .. I scared the **** out of her ... mnargh mnargh narrow road mnargh mnargh noise exhaust mnargh flame. ..... ah whatever.

I only take calculated risks as my cars/bikes always mean alot to me and i dont want to bin them. I do think some people get scared over nothing though. There are some drivers that lack confidence, but by the same token you do get people that will slag anything off that has the audacity to overtake them. Thats a bit grim really.

Its just the way of the world isnt it. Im not sure id label a biker a scumbag just because he has a fast bike and has the balls to ride it fast, thats me only point really.

All right, a little bit of misunderstanding there...
I own an (old) fast bike, ride it fast, sometimes "very" fast :D , and love that. My point of view is that you can enjoy adrenaline rushes without threatening other people lifes and health (and yours, obviously). There are a few rules you can not ignore, like staying on your own lane...

whereas if a -car- hits something at 150mph ....
Same thing, mith mostly with someone else, or two, or three, or four, or five, etc... killed...

I dont think you can have an adrenilin rush without threatening your life .......... thats the whole point.

Other wise we would all be going round saying .... whoah did 30mph today, it was wild, didnt overtake or race anyone ... EXTREEME DUDE !!!!!

its the thrill and the scare that attracts this sort of behaviour.

True you can do it with an certain amount of safety .. but the more saftey you apply the less the thrill.

Try it tonight ...... drive at 150mph outside a school, naked with no seat belt having left the dinner cooking, the front door open and a suspect pair of girls panties in your partners bed.

I bet the thrill is awesom

Im glad this thread has had such a good response... I posted it with just a hint of tongue in cheek, as I love like most people do here, to overtake others fast etc. (btw I failed to mention they were on the wrong side of the road but i think u got that )

Also didnt realise how many bikers there were here !!!

Have made 1 observation though :

Small minority of car drivers drive like lunatics.
MAJORITY of crotch rocket motorcyclists ride like lunatics !!! Although they do make me laugh because of the sheer power to weight ratio of the bikes and what they can do. I was recently waiting at progress lights along A127 out of southend London bound for those that know it. The lights are red, this guy (or gal) pulled up next tome me. The speed limit is 40mph for about a qurter mile straight until the 70mph (still DC). Think it was a Kawasaki Ninja, lights went amber pulled a wheelie for the whole quater and must have got upto about 100 !

Bad driving is bad driving. Doesn't matter if you are on a bike or in a car. Personally I feel that riding a bike since I was 16 now am 42, has made me a far better car driver. I am more aware of different road surfaces and how they affect grip, how to go around bends quickly but safely, am more aware of what is happening around me etc.

Always remember being told when I was 16, There are old riders and bold riders but very few old bold riders!

Gotta agree with XEB's comments. The bike test it bloody difficult to pass and riding a bike needs a lot of co-ordination compared to driving a car. It teaches good road awareness and how to ride/drive defensively. I've been riding a bike for just over 2 years and I feel I'm still learning.

Some people do seem to act really aggressively towards bikers, I'm not sure why really. Maybe because on our ****, traffic-infested roads its only by riding a bike that you can make progress.

Don't give a F*ck if it's fun. What gives them the right to scratch my paintwork because they have to get to the front of a queue on the A13 at it's narrowist before everyone else does.

Rant Over

Quite frankly, I didnt think it was hard enough.

The fact that I could go, from never having sat on a bike before, to 4 days later having an unrestricted licence, a 1ltr bike and a curiosity to wind that throttle round ??? ... its mad ...

I dont know what the answer is to that ...... but I know I made my bike instructors laugh when at the end of the first day I did a couple of Donuts in the car in the CBT carpark area. Before taking them for a very quick spin in it.

From that stunt alone I should have failed the psychiatric part of the test (if there was one)

Still one thing I do agree with though is how much my car driving has improved since riding a bike ... I am now so aware of what is around me, what other road users are likely to do, bad road surfaces, potential danjerous situations .... I think every one that uses the road should have to experience it from all other road users point of view. ...... Go do your bilke test guys .... it will improve your driving no end ........ it will also make your cars feel realy dull afterwards as well :( .... :D

i think the roadcraft gets a bit better with bike riding, as you are more concerned over whether people have/can see you. Also makes you very aware of road surfaces, its a nasty feeling when you get a whiff of diesel coming up through the visor when you're commited into smoothing a roundabout out..  but you tend not to notice that kind of thing in a car.

Driving down a single lane part of the A30 (I think) to get to the coast a couple of summers ago - busy traffic (as usual) a pair of bikers came weaving in past me - one just missed the front offside of my car

"he's gonna kill himself riding like that" I said

10 seconds later huge plume of smoke (tyres) brake lights all stop. See folk running to side of road where there is one of the bikers lying prostrate on the verge. Road was clear so we started to continue - one of the 'helpers' were on the phone whilst the others had moved away from the still biker.

He'd only brushed a car (you could see the minor scratches) - reckon he was dead (otherwise the people would have been trying to talk to him etc).

Mate came hammering it back the other way about 5 minutes later - mustn't have seen the accident and carried on.

The moral of this sad tale - don't ride or drive like a nob (and no I can't predict the lottery numbers)

not dying to live.

Haven't got a bike but if I did I would rev the nuts off it.
