Looking forward to this (presuming i get a place). Had the 14a 3 months now and figured it was time i learnt how to drive it properly :)

Anyone been to one of these events? hopefully going to Birmingham Wheels on the 13th. Need to know if the organisers are spectator friendly because a mate wants to go with me however it will be a bit boring for him if he isn't allowed trackside with the camera etc.

Just do a normal drift day, drift academy days are expensive and IMO not as good as a real drift day.

Wheels is a banger racing oval and not a good place to learn in your own car as you can imagine.

Check out driftworks events section.

Brum wheels is no place to learn. No run off and concreted armco all the way round the track. Fcuk up and you will be lucky to not badly bend your car. I wouldnt drive it.

We don't use the oval at Birmingham, just as we don't use it at Northampton. We have access to an area which is a large open piece of tarmac, perfect for anyone to learn the basics in complete safety.

Friends/guests are welcome at any of our events - just let us know how many of you there will be.

Yes, our events are more expensive than some others, but that's because we keep the group size very small so you get lots of driving time and one-to-one instruction. Our days are strucured to get anyone with little or no drifting experience up to a standard where they'll feel confident to go to a practise day or clubman competition and be able to join in without looking like a total beginner. You can't really compare one of our days to a practise day, because it's a completely different thing.

We do also organise practise days if you want something cheaper without intensive instruction and we'll be announcing more in the next few days, so make sure you're signed up to our newsletter. (send e-mail to: newsletter@driftacademy.co.uk)

If you've got any questions about any of our courses, just contact us and we'll be happy to answer them personally: info@driftacademy.co.uk

Thanks!

Sorry for posting this in the wrong section guys.

Don't want to use my own car at first so the Acadmey seemed the obvious choice. Cost isn't really an issue as i am a novice and would like proper advice from someone that knows what they are on about. Once I got the basics sorted out I will take the 14a to practice events.

Perhaps as a recognised club someone could organise drift days for SXOC people only? There are plenty of airfields, tracks and open spaces around that could be 'borrowed' for a day. Club members are far more likely to be careful with other club members. Perhaps I ought to get a move on and join myself :)

Better to use your own car if you have lots of runoff than use one of there MX5's

What does "lots of run off" mean?

Grass or the like so when you come off the track/tarmac, which you probably will, you won't destroy your car.

Good luck with it Eye, let us know if its any good. I was going to do this in Nov, but have no wedge. Will definitely do it in the new year tho...

I tried to 'learn' in my own car and popped the OSF tyre right off the rim in the 'run off area'. The thought of using someone elses car with a trained instructor makes a bit more sense to me now, at least until I get the basics...

I had a go with the drift acadamy guys back in march before i had my s14. It was a fun day but i found it a lot harder than i thought it would be! Wouldnt mind another go but cant always come by £200-odd. :(

Did you use your own car swampy or thier MX5? I'm thinking of having a go at this myself, would you say it was the best place to start driftin?

The Drift Academy guys are all good and will get you up to speed quickly

By the way, this is what happens when you drift the Northampton Oval and get a little out of your depth ... http://www.driftworks.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=6101 :wack:

Here's what happened when I first tried to drift...

A clip from the video: pic-1 (http://hosting.carsoncamera.com/swr/200sx-01.jpg)
(the full video is way to embarrasing to show  )

And the damage afterwards: pic-2 (http://hosting.carsoncamera.com/swr/200sx-02.jpg)

Hence my interested in being taught properly... :)

Not sure if I should use my own motor now, or splash a bit more cash and abuse thier car? Once the price of tyres n fuel for the day have been added to the price i dont think its far off the price of using thiers, is it?

Well I did it! A drift academy day. I chose to use their mx5 over my own car, its £100 more to do so but I figured I'd easy spend that on tyres, fuel, hasstle of getting wheels down there and if it broke its a 3 hour drive home!

Anyway it was a really good fun day, harder than I expected it to be too. Praise to the pro drivers! :notworthy

We were split into 2 groups of about 5, me in the beginners as I've not done it before. The other group flew in from spain that morning to do it! They were all race drivers.

We first started on a few controlled doughnuts and quickly onto figure of 8's. Each person in the group would get a 3 min drive before swapping with another group member..

After a couple of drives with the tutor in the car we were left in the car on our own, very cool! A great way to learn cos you dont bother and curse yourself when you spin. and spin you will, lots!

By the end I was happily sliding round 3 different sized circles with control... dougnuts with an arm out the window... he he.. a great day!

Plus other drivers were practicing in their cars at the other side of the track, includeing an s15 and 700bhp Dodge Viper! The Williams boys were even testing the F1 car round the corner...

 to drift acedemy!
