Hi,
I don't know if you have been up my way lately, but have you any idea what that flat panel is on the lamppost on Crownhill road near widey junction. I haven't seen it but Andy told me about it lunchtime. It catches your speed by the court and flashes it up at you as you approach. Is it linked to anything else because the speed camera is a way further down the road.
Any ideas or does any know what it is?
Thanks
Hayley.

Well I would say "Scare you" ... more to remind you that you are in or approaching a 30 limit ..... and maybe doing 42mph isnt quite appropriate considering there are children around, people shopping, old dears on ickle push bikes with shopping baskets, People stepping out from illigally parked cars.
Normally they are put near schools or leisure centres, or small villages where the roar of a hyper muffler at full boost isnt appretiated so much.
But nowing out government, they will soon be on deserted country roads and the M4.

A few years ago, they were trialing number plate recognition software and hardware, on the M20 near Ashford.
They had the cameras fitted to a bridge parapet, and then there was a huge board, half a mile further on, which showed
"R *** XBA SLOW DOWN YOU WERE TRAVELLING AT 102MPH"
Only problem was the equipment and software were $hit and the numberplate displayed was always close, but not quite right.

They already have something similar on the A414 between hatfield and hemel, it's a bloody big sign that flashes up slow down if you approach it to fast. its a 70mph dual carrageway which slows down to 50mph for 100mtrs and then back to 70mph. been trying to get it to swear at me :D damn thing picks you up from miles away. only seems to flash a little faster the faster you go. BTW no kids, no schools, no houses for miles, just an anoying wierd roundabout.

I couldnt be arsed to write all that myself so I just wrote "to scare u". But, the one that I've seen wasnt in a particularly dangerous place.
Thanks guys.
It's on a busy road, 30 limit I think. It is past the shops (which are off the road anyway). I think it is near the traffic lights. You would think that they would try and get you to slow down before the shops when you come off the dual carriageway rather then once you have passed them. There is nothing else along that road. Everyone slows down around there anyway for the speed camera ahead.
By the way vega if you read this, thanks for giving me Rob's number. Took the car down there on Saturday and he gave me a good price. Apparently I don't need much doing to her after all. More money to spend on other things. Thanks.
Hayley.
There's a similar thing on the A24. It's a bit of dual carriageway with a "recommended" speed limit of 60 !!!
I've tested the sign and it goes off above 60 mph, so everyone ignores it.
To be fair, there is a dodgy junction (short slip, right hand turn allowed with space in the middle for cars to wait) just past there so it isn't safe to do much more than 70 through there anyway...
