Celica GT-Four

I know a lad who's just got a Celica GT-Four after writin off his MX-5 Turbo (BBR).. problem is I dunno weither to race him cos I don't know much about them.. will I beat him? :rolleyes:

they are bloody quick in standard trim mate - about 5.4 to 60 if i remember right.

Depends which type of GT4 he's got. If its the shape with the 4 individual lights on the front you going to have problems with a standard S13 or S14.

I know that their 240 horse standard.. mine has just got a HKS power flow, FBU, and Forge DV for the moment so I'll keep away :(

Nah mate, race him. If you lose you will then have a target to beat with future mods and if you win you will be a happy chappy.

Dont race him off the line though, 4WD will win. Race him from a rolling start so that the 4WD doesnt make a difference, you'll probably be suprised how little difference there is.

What year is his GT4?

Note that whilst the later versions had 220+hp, the first generation only had 185, which puts it into "much easier" territory.

I think they stopped the first gen versions about 91(ish).

The one this lad has is a G reg (1990).. I've checked the Parkers guide and it says that in 1990 the GT-Four was released with 201 bhp and in 1994 the newer one had 240 bhp.. what till I see that lad!!! :D

They aren't that quick at all for the early versions, unless modded. 0 - 60 is about 7 dead, quarter mile in 15 - 15.5. They are a very heavy car, nice to drive and handle well, but I would think you'd easily keep up in a straight line even in a standard S14. I had mine, then sold it and got an S13, which had around 210BHP. It deafenitelt felt quicker than the GT4, and went sideways much better

The later ones are definitely much quicker.

If its standard you will NOT have any probs beating him! remember they are 4wd and loose about 100 bhp through the drivetrain. mate at work has the carlos sainz version, nice tidy car doesnt handle too bad but standard against standard you should whoop his ass. the guy at work has spent a fair bit of dosh on his and even though it's better it still doesnt have the raw grunt of the 200.

Nice one lads, I hope I see him soon, you know it's like havin a fast car and then someone starts tellin the missus about his Celica cos it gets my back up especially when he can't drive for ****, he had a MX5 turbo for a week, tried to over take a truck at 50 lost the back end and wrote it off, then he goes tellin everyone that the lads in the bodyshop told him that it was 250bhp when it wasn't even drivable to get it on a rollin road.. I HATE LIARS!!! :mad:

I took on a Scooby sti mk4 last night (280bhp)
And from a rolling start (off a roundabout)
Their was very little in it
He may have had the slightest of edges on the exit of the roundabout
But once we was going the gap seemed to stay the same!!

The only thing I seem to have that you don’t is a decat pipe!!

Take him on if you lose we will all come and find him!!
