View Full Version : Turbo problems and improving traction out of corners?

I've been generally pondering this problem a while, but it was brought to a head last night when I was having a blast (on private roads) against a mate in his C2 VTS. Obviously I've got way more power, but he was able to get his power down more effectively through and out of corners, and just about keep with me until it straightened up, and my greater power told.

I had two main problems:

1. The power delivery of my car is ridiculously non-linear. On any degree of part throttle (clearly necessary in / out of bends because it just spins up otherwise) it starts off reasonably, but the power builds exponentially as the revs (and thus boost) builds, despite leaving the throttle stationary. This leads to oversteer, but any degree of lifting off drops the boost significantly, and loses a lot of power. This on/off nature unbalances the car, and is clearly not a fast smooth way to drive through a corner.

2. The traction of my car is poor, particularly in anything but a dead straight line. At Silverstone, a 996 Carrera 2 (which I later passed) was able to get the power down metres ahead of me. I've got HKS Hipermax IIs fitted, which are fairly stiff, and a good geometry setup. I've got 8" SO3s all round, in decent nick.

Any suggestions, apart from natural aspiration? ;)
