This sounds good, more details to follow, who would be intrested?
This would put me in "standard class", and Bren and Jez would still only be in the basic modified

The events we organise do not require cars that compete in road-legal form to have a roll cage. In fact, you can just roll up in your standard motor and compete. There are separate classes for standard and modified cars, and as modification gets greater things like roll cages are encouraged (although not mandatory). Fireproof overalls and helmet are mandatory, but once bought these should last a long time.

The class structure is still "to be defined". The number of classes we can run depends on the level of interest we can muster - hopefully by appealing to a range of cars (get the evos, skylines, pulsars involved) we can get a decent class set up and running. I can see scope for perhaps three classes:

1. Standard car class, with the following modifications only:
- wheels +1 inch in diameter
- tyres from MSA list 1A (basically a list of standard road tyres, excluding specialist sticky trackday tyres)
- springs and shocks free
- exhaust and induction free
- standard ecu - may be remapped but to a max of 1.1 bar/300bhp

2. Road going modified (equiv. to current class A)
- must be road legal and have current MoT
- standard suspension pick up points and geometry
- standard engine block, cylinder head and transmission castings
- must have complete shell, and retain profile of vehicle

3. Modified (equiv. to current class C)
- Anything goes (almost!) class

The idea would be to produce a list of "acceptable" cars for classes 1+2 (e.g. for imprezas based on something like the SIDC FAQ list). This is only my opening gambit, all of this is up for debate.

To give you an example of an airfield venue, here is something kwakman posted up recently from our event on 25th Sept. http://www.stjives.co.uk/scoob2.wmv Be warned - it is a 5MB download, not suitable for people on dial-up! As you can see, the airfield is very open - if you fall off the course, you will probably run out of fuel before you hit anything. Sprints also take place at circuits, and there are also hillclimbs to do if you aren't too concerned by trees at the side of the circuit

I haven't been for a couple of weeks dude, the suspension thing and other general shite has meant drifting hasn't really been happening too much recently. That changes tonight though ;) (on the street, not north Weald)

I'd be up for it - depending on venue :)
Sprinting is a really good laugh - even better if theres a bunch of people we know :)

Big up the SXOC! Used to have an S13 in my yoof before I bottled it and went all 4WD. Im pleased you lot would be up for a sprint champ next year. Alot of Jap turbo owners seem to tune just for the quarter mile but thats only part of the story, sprinting is a much more rounded test of car and driver, and about the cheapest form of competitive motorsport known to man.

And I expect as you are all drifters you'll have the requisite amount of car control :)

From what I remember of my S13 and wet roundabouts, drifting didnt seem to be optional ;)

Keep the discussion going; we could meet for a pre-season trackday shakedown :D

Just tell us when ;) You would be surprised how quick our cars are in the wet with decent suspension and tyres :p

You have to watch kev, especially if he has a touch of flu, he turns into a proper hooligan :wack:  :D

Thats the spirit. For anyone in the East of England I shall be driving like a tool around Sculthorpe Airfield nr Fakenham in Norfolk this Sunday, all are welcome, details here (http://www.turbo-nutters.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8964)

Hmm.... I think they'd be surprised how slow my car is in the wet - LOL :)

Could I run my car in class 1 as its under 1.1 bar but over 300bhp no chip just standard ecu, standard fueling and standard sized turbos on standard actuators?

The Class listing is up for comments and is based on the RACMSA sprint classes. Ultimately there has to be an element of trust involved. You enter your car in the class you think is appropriate. Its then up to another competitor in your class to protest if they think you should be re-classed. Such incidents are rare though, as its mainly a bit of fun.

Great to see lots of interest over here - as kwakman says we are still open to ideas and suggestions for the class structure, the list above are just my first thoughts, and are likely to require some fine tuning depending on the response we get (which so far looks very promising!) - the more interest the more classes we can run, etc.

Keep up the discussion, be great to hear peoples views and get a feel for amount of interest, and we will post up any news on progress in getting this off the ground!

I think I would go into class 1 as I have a bigger and heavier car than a S13/4 so at a disadvantage anyway
I am up for this especially if its at north weald

Weve got an event on at North Weald on the 3rd of September and are in discussion with the MSA for a full series next year. I'll point my brother in this direction as he has the details, but it would be good to see some of you in 3 weeks time.

Good to see lots of interest still over here!

The 2006 season went a bit pear shaped for us because we almost lost our venue - North Weald Airfield opened a Sunday market on a bit of the course we used to use, and early in the year we thought we'd lost the venue completely. So I put the idea of a Japanese Intermarque series on the back burner!

I'm planning to apply for a series for 2007 incorporating a few different venues and car clubs, so even if we have more problems with one venue we will still be able to go ahead. I was thinking a calendar of around 7 or 8 events, mainly in the south of England, and see how it goes from there.

As kwakman mentioned, we have an event on Sunday 3rd September at North Weald Airfield - this is a general sprint and has no japanese marque specific things going on - but it would be a good place to find out what goes on, what people might be interested in etc. If anyone wants to have a go they are welcome to as well - I'll get some regs and entry forms up on the web shortly!

As I already sprint, I'm interested, and I imagine a few of the other guys on the MR2 owners club (www.imoc.co.uk/forums) would be interested as well.

Can you give them a nudge on there Raz? It'd be good to get a few different marques along for a pre 2007 season blast.

I was referring to next year. There's some interest in sprints on IMOC, but no one has a licence. I'm out of the country in September, so I can't do North Weald.
Have you got a webpage I can link them to for 2007? :)

Hi Raz,

It would be great to get more cars involved - unfortunately the web link will have to wait at the moment, blue book rules state we are not allowed to formally advertise the championship as such until it gets the MSA approval (of course, we are just sounding the ideas out on forums at the moment which doesn't count as advertising ;) )

I'm quite busy sorting out the up and coming event, but once the event is done and dusted I'll be looking to move on the championship.

For anyone interested, here is a link to supplementary regs for our sprint at North Weald Airfield, Essex on 3rd September (http://www.motorsport.demon.co.uk/TT06SRs.pdf). It is a non-spectator event, entry by pass only, competitors and marshals are welcome though!
